Ok, it appears that the GTX 580 is going to be released along with the 6950/6970. I'm sure there will be a GTX 570/GTX 560 at some later date but for now which will you plan on buying if available this year?

6950s and ill overclock to get close to 6970 performance i figure 6950 will have better thermals and lower power consumptions and considering im still on an AMD cpu I figure the 6970s in xfire will be bottlenecked same as 6950s so eitherway ill get performance through the roof and be limited by a cpu. so yea 6950s for me

I voted GTX 580, but that's more wishful thinking than anything else. I'm not actually gonna be buying anything and I'd have to see the reviews first before actually being able to say for sure.

I voted 580 but I would consider a 6970 too for one of my LAN rigs. I could only vote for one thing so I picked 580 because I may get more than one. Mainly depending on pricing, availability, and reviews.

Same as WilE here, not voting til I know what the GTX580 can do, also waiting on the flagship of ATI to be released first as well before I take any big leaps from a HD5870

Assuming performance is decent I may get a 6950 or 6970.

If not a 6870 with custom cooling running at 1ghz core. followed by another later on.

Other options would be 2x 460s ( with all shaders, sure nv will release them)

Or a 580, but I've never got on with nvidia drivers, do my nut in.

I'm curious what you don't like about them?

I don't like the way AMD have gotten rid of the expanding menu on the left hand side and force you to click the top left constantly. This is so irritating, that it's a show stopper for me.

Also, the nvidia driver has considerably more 3D options and allows AA & AF to be switched off. The AMD driver only drops it down to 2x or application controlled, which is annoying and potentially limiting.

And please everyone, this is not an invitation for a fanboi handbag attack. I'm just curious about Panther's take on the driver interface.

I've just had the misfortune of having driver conflicts or something when ever I've used an nvidia card.

Random crashes, display driver restarts, or dodgy things like not out putting video until I've switched the machine on twice.

Only had the 3 nv pci-e cards mind you.

Also I don't like the control panel, just a preference thing. Lots of options, but none of the ones i'm interested in XD

Hmmm, drivers not working is a bit of a bummer and I can't say I blame you!

My old 7-series cards (including the expensive 7950 GX2) work really badly in Windows 7, but fine in XP with the latest drivers. Way to go nvidia. Good thing I don't use them regularly, eh?

The mode maker application is pretty broken too. Now this one's annoying, as it's potentially a very useful feature. :banghead:

AMD could really clean up here by adding this feature into their drivers and actually making it work.

Not buying any, probably best wait for the 28nm cards to come out. (rumors say that it may not be until 2012 when they do, but i highly doubt it)

The 580 and 6970 and blah blah blah have really high thermals, thats because the only performance increase you can get on the 40nm cards are made really hot cards with larger chips

... I totally agree with you regarding thermal performance, and I was actually thinking to do the same (wait till the new GPUs based on 28nm technology are out) but I can't wait for long ...
