[WTB][US] PCI GPU (Vista/7 Compatible)

Working on an older computer and would like to see if someone has a low end PCI card they wouldnt mind selling me cheap, like lunch + shipping costs.

According to toastem2004 the cards I am looking for are: nvidia 6 series or higher / ati 9500 or higher

HEAT is in sig as well as my Videogame FS thread. Would def work out a trade if possible.

Dub I had to dig but I got an old Trident 8257F/R5 PCI card. Don't know if it works. Looks OK

Any idea if that card would run under Win7/Vista? I think it might be too old Im going to research it a bit more.

I have a couple PCI cards in my sig. No idea about Vista/7 support. Not sure if they even work but I could test them if you'd like. I really have no idea what they are worth so prices aren't firm.

From what I could find they are all too old (both Bill's and Maban's) I think the oldest I can go is a Nvidia 6100 type card or ATI 9 series.

There are plenty of PCI cards still in production today, it will recognize it just fine

of course it does pci isn't dead it just has limited uses


anyway win7 will work with almost any card the problem lies with direct x support on these old cards being to low, at best you might be able to set your resolution properly and use the basic scheme.


i would look for a x1300/1550 there where also some low end low profile pci 8/9 series cards by nvidia that might work fully featured win7

Interesting info. If I can find this Vista disc I would try installing it and seeing what happens, but no dice so far. I'd like Areo to work, but if classic works without issues I could settle and use the IGP. Thanks!

you'll need at least a nvidia 6 series or higher / ati 9500 or higher. The 9250 is DX8 and will just give u "standard vga" driver. The min requirement is DX9, and even though the nvidia fx (5 series) is dx9, no support in vista/7. In my shop here, we have an Athlon MP 1800+ w/ an ati 9600xt in it. Aero runs and surprising is quite smooth with the effects.

ive tested Win7 on intel IGP's the 9+ seems to work without aero there wwdm 1.0
