A plasma is a way better value than a $750 60hz LCD HDTV even with an LED backlight. The motion characteristics of LCD panels are simply inferior to Plasma. If you watch sports there is no better way to watch it then on a plasma. $750 will surely get you a 42" 1080p Plasma or even a 50" Plasma. Just for example I've provided a link to a Panasonic S2 series 42" 1080p Plasma. Power consumption is higher on Plasma but so is the picture quality.

LEDs last longer than plasma, and are a lot thinner/lighter. 42 inch LEDs are typically an inch thick or less. I saw one at fry's that was half an inch. HALF A FREAKING INCH!

I've got to admit though, I couldn't care less if my tv is 4" thick or 1/2" thick (more than that then maybe it's getting a bit fat). But after hanging the tv on the wall, I can gaurentee that it's still gonna sit a few inches from the wall regardless of its thickness.

My 50" Panasonic Series S2 Plasma will last for 100000 hours at which it will reduce to half its brightness. How the hell long to want it to last?

I have that plasma, it kicks ass.

For me, at my house, we have our living room 50 inch tv on 24/7, no joke, its on all
day on UFO crap for my uncle and Doctor Who recordings cuz its the best. But for
someone like me id like something that would last a long while, currently we have a
back projection tv, and its pretty much dead, i considered getting a plasma, but the
cheapest ones had a 5000 hour lifespan, so i saved up enough for a 55 inch LED for
just over $1000 USD, brand new from frys for a deal they had. So for a little bit more,
and a lot thinner of a tv, i like the LEDs.

Newer Plasma's are rated to last much longer than they used to be.

That really sounds like the FUD that LCD manufactures tried to use as advertising in the early days of flat panels, that was later shown to not be truthful. I'm not saying phosphors don't loose their luminosity over time but it was greatly exaggerated to sell more LCDs.

I've went back on service calls to systems that have Plasmas that were installed in the late 90's/early 2000's and although outdated technology wise, they still look awesome.
