Audio Advice Needed

So... Over the years I've been more than happy with my setup I put together myself, it's a bit of a mix'n'match but it's perfectly fine but it just doesn't cut it anymore for me I feel it's lacking the quality the modern day audio systems so I have a budget of around £100 and I will stress this fact... I will be willing to stretch the budget by some margin if someone point's out a nice setup and can prove that its worth the money?

I've been thinking 5.1 but the last one I got was pretty shitty (it's in my specs - cheap and nasty) so that's probably the reason I went back to my old setup (the one I'm currently using) but I'm open to any kind of setup, space isn't an issue either but may be in the future, also would prefer optical connection as I think this is the way to go?

... and would that actually fill a room, sound wise? my living room is around 20ft x 13ft

Get some Floor standing one's that are front ported.. Bookshelf need subs that good a good job together but a good pair of front ported floor standing speakers will do a better job.

There is a better place than Super FI as they tend to be more expensive.

Really you want 8" woofers any smaller the sound is much smaller with a lot of thump missing. My faverate speakers were very old some TANNOY mercury's which were 8" woofer and 1inch done tweeter which were made back in 1982-3 which would fill a room with out issue although the newer ones such ass and are smaller.

Oh damn... I just got my heart set on these here http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-ht-c460-5-1ch-home-cinema-system-exclusive-model-with-850w-04965840-pdt.html but now I've seen some of those from richersounds! As mentioned before though I'm not too sure my amp is upto the current day standards, I know new speakers will improve the sound quality but i'm worried it won't improve it enough for me to say I've splashed out over 100 or so pounds for something I want to last me a few year's down the line.

850w dont believe it it's worse than MPH and KPH lol.. What you want to know is the RMS not PMPO or PMP or any other BS rating they say like adding a 50w speaker with another 50w speaker and saying it's 100w as that's like adding cores together and saying my old e8400 was 6Ghz lol.

yes thats true, PMPO is the peak that could powered at a time not the whole power, RMS is the power that flow into speaker continuously no matter how the volume you're on

Yeh I was concerned about if the 850w is PMPO or RMS so I'm going to drop in store today and ask more about the ones I like, if it's not 850w RMS then I'll go for some others I've seen rated at 600w RMS... £20 more but look's just as good IMO.

600w RMS speakers at Dixons lol ?.. More like 50w RMS x 6 = 600w.. Although 50w RMS is good for some people depending on room size and there preferences.

Why not check online for the items at least you have a better chance of the truth and see if there is any reviews..

All the reviews I found was really excellent, but the store didn't have that model in stock so I went with the slightly different model - 500w, 2 x right/left channel speaker - external - 83 Watt - 140 - 20000 Hz ¦ 1 x centre channel speaker - external - 83 Watt - 140 - 20000 Hz ¦ 1 x subwoofer - external - 85 Watt - 40 - 160 Hz ¦ 2 x right/left rear channel speaker - external - 83 Watt - 140 - 20000 Hz

and I see how you mean with how things are worked out, still 83 - 84w isn't too bad I guess and I am really impressed with the overall sound! going with the optical connection is a bonus too I think, It's much better sound that what I had and certainly has a lot more behind the it than meets the eye. The next time I upgrade audio though I think I'll shop for things much differently as such I'll buy a stand alone receiver and build from that.
