Bluray movies through players and through PC.

In all honesty I am not sure why you would see a discrepancy between the two. The cables do the same thing, transport the exact same digital data. That's an interesting thing...

I was thinking that, maybe the decoder on my PC + driver enhancement make pictures look better.

My TV is 1080p, beside it's the same TV... I'm just using different players (PC & PS3) to play the HD contents.

When you say the picture is worse through the PS3, does it look like it's standard def? If so, it could be the DRM kicking in and lowering the resolution, as it may think that you're viewing it on an unauthorised device. It doesn't sound all that likely without seeing it, but I can't think of anything else.

Can you describe in what way the picture looks worse?

The difference is not day and night.. my eyes are not that bad yet.

It seems there are more artifacts. It's especially noticeable on very dark scenes, but when playing through PC, the artifacts are almost not there.

Colors seems to be more "colorful"? Lol.

Anyway, nothing really serious. I'm just asking if anyone has experienced something similar.

chances are its either the driver or the program your using to play the blu ray thats affecting it.

It sounds like there's some digital signal processing going on, with one or both players. It might not even be a user configurable option.

Check through the menus of both machines to make sure that all processing is turned off and then compare again.

Maybe the rendering is 1080P on both but the colours rendering quality could be different depending on the power of video chipset in PC and in PS3. The only other thing I see is that the TV hdmi is not setted properly and could be on different property of colours like 6500K 8000K etc!

my housemates PS3 has a lot more artifacts and over sharpened images with blu ray, than when i play them via my PC via VLC.

modern video cards (and the drivers) definitely have things designed to make movies look better.

Yes it is when you think about your i7 PC, loaded with an Evga 480, against the hardware of a PS3 which is 3 to 4 years old now. Put simply it is because PC hardware has greatly improved over the 3 & 4 since the PS3's first release and now the PC is more powerful for not only playing games, but playing films in Blu-Ray too so that goes to show how superior the PC is against a games console such as the PS3.

Put simply it is because PC hardware has greatly improved over the 3 & 4 since the PS3's first release and now the PC is more powerful for not only playing games, but playing films in Blu-Ray too so that goes to show how superior the PC is against a games console such as the PS3.

it doesnt take a high end graphics card to play a bluray. having better hardware isnt going to improve the picture...

Totally normal, the PC(more specifically your Graphics Card) will enhance the image using its built in video enhancements. Most players just send out the raw image that it reads from the disc without any enhancements.

But a bad HDMI cable would cause boxxy artifacts all the time, not just during dark scenes, wouldn't it?

Maybe the artifacts are just part of the movie scene, and the PC is filtering them better?

ever come to think ps3/ has older hardware, not being able to output higher quality picture due to dx9 7900gt, the whole console thing is just a big gimmick, lets get realistic ps3/xbox360 is out dated that came out in sometime 2007

I will try to take the pictures, but i don't think my camera can tell the differences... And you can't really take screenshots on the ps3..

Im also inclined to think its a bad HDMI connection, possibly if your using the same HDMI cable then it could be the port on the PS3 or something to do with the PS3 itself. IF not try a different cable because for some reason or other i had a HDMI cable that would not work on my 360 and tv, something to do with signal detection.
