so I'm getting a system shipped over to me from Australia and the GPU in it isn't all that crash hot so I'll be adding a new one within 4-6 weeks. I need a bit of help choosing what will be best for me given preferences, costs and system specs.

system is as follows,

Athon X2 240 @ 3.5ghz
4gb DDR2 800mhz
Coolermaster 650w PSU
LG 21.5" 1080P LCD

all the games I play now I try to play in 1080P on my laptop, some it handles better than others...

My limit is right around 200€, and it has to be able to be run by a 650w PSU, and hopefully game well at 1080P.

possible choices so far have been;

GTS450
GTX460 1gb
GTX470 (not sure if I can get one for under 200€ or if PSU will handle OC'ing)

HD5770
HD5850
HD6850
HD6870

thoughts?

I personally like the 6870/6850, as fast as the nvidia's you listed give or take 5 fps wile being cooler and less stressful on the psu.

6850 could be considered, 460 is nice too but its all depends on what point do you need, just gaming, all in one or other.
460 is nice but it needs more power, little bit better on tesselation, has physx support.
on the performance they just have slightly difference

the foremost card in my mind is a Gigabyte GTX460 for how quiet and overclockable they are, I'll get to GTX470 territory pretty easily, and 650w will be enough.

I kinda prefer Nvidia cards/drivers too, my last ATi's were great but they haven't won me over completely.

Giga GTX460 I can get for 170€ in store, cheapest 6850 there is 180€ :ohwell:

460, it would be nice, i bought the card 1 month ago about
$170 and its pretty fast card, since i dont game much i use it for graphic editing and thats performs well. So if you want to take it, choose 1 gig or 2 gig memory coz it little bit better than 768mb on handle large resolution especially on gaming

If you're OK with overclocking than I'd get the 470. If you want something that will run cooler and/or won't be overclocked I'd get the 5870. You can get both for under $250 (184 euros) with rebates and the 470 actually overclocks quite well from what I've read (15-20%). I think your psu has 52 amps for the 12v line so I don't think power will be the problem for a single card. What is the maximum gpu length that your case supports?

I would recommend ASUS HD6850 DirectCu (costs same as reference), it will overclock near 6870 with no increase in voltage, and with voltage increased to 6870 levels, it will overclock to a 6870. It got 9.5 from techpowerup: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/Radeon_HD_6850_Direct_Cu/32.html Its power requirements are low, consuming only 100W during load. Also, Anandtech reviewed different custom-cooler 6850 models from Asus, XFX and MSI, Asus coming on top as the best balanced card.

If you want to spend more money, another option could be MSI 6870 Twin Frozr II, runs cooler and quieter and the reference and will overclock better.

I would recommend the Gigabyte GTX470 SOC. But the thing is, there's just a small jump to the GTX570 that would blow all the listed cards out of the water.
