I am not sure who has set expectations so high, but they seem mispalced.

The AMD supporters want them to Crush Nvidia so bad its not even funny, some seem to love the idea of AMD being ahead and hate the idea of Nvidia being ahead. these are the very same people that don't understand how good competition is for the consumer.

sure, let AMD crush the GTX580 twice over, enjoy your $800+ card.

I for one hope the 6970 and 6950 are very competitive with the 580 and 570 so we see a price war ensue.

I honestly don't believe people care that much. Right now, the spot light is on AMD. That doesn't necessitate to favoritism automatically. But the anticipation of what they are releasing to the public. I'm going to wait for reviews on this one to see how important the drivers are for the VLIW4 architecture.

What I am most interested in at this point is both camps Dual GPU cards.

the power a dual GF110 or Dual Cayman could offer would be staggering, and so completely unecessary that I crave it :)

I'm just itching to find out. I'm glad to see 2GB, as I had suspected, but you know, I saw MSI GTX480 Lightening for $439, and almost bought it.

I have my eyes on that too. It's quieter than a 580- maybe not quite as fast but within 5-8% (5-8% better than a regular 480). I really wanted a 480 Super Overclock but only Newegg has them and they dont ship to UK.

I'm not paying the massively inflated price for a 580 (started at £400 now as much as >£500 for OC'd models.)

Whatever you want to buy it's best to wait for the 69xx release as it could mean price drops even if they are not big it means better value.

Oh, please don't mis-understand me. That comment was not directed at you perosnally, but at the info...any info, at this point, is suspect. With just days to go, I can wait for REAL info, from REAL sources. I want AUTHORIZED info...anything else, no matter how true it may be, will be considered invalid by myself.

Has anyone posted scores with drivers newer then 10.11?

All the GPUz screen shots I've seen so far show drivers prior to 10.11.

I first thought that the 6970 would be more or less equal to the GTX580
Now i think it will be a tiny bit faster then the GTX480 in some benchs & games & not much more
When you think about it AMD design the 6970 to compete with the GTX480 & Nvidia :nutkick: AMD with the GTX580... surprise! , surprise! :ohwell:

So if the 6970 keep up with the GTX480 or better then AMD still did a good job on the 6970 , we just need a really good price tag on it

so basically amd released the 69XX cards to compete with the GTX4XX cards?? now maybe its just me but I thought the 58XX cards were to compete with the gtx 4XX cards?? I think this was supposed to be better but amd screwed something up. I wouls rather had a 6970 that was 2X the performance of the 5870

Interesting, if true.

Apparently, AMD really beefed up tessellation capabilities, judging by Metro 2033 @ 2560x1600: 5870 was ~35.8% behind 480 and 480 was ~17.8% behind 580, as seen in W1zzard's review, and yet 6970 seems to be ~125% faster the 480, making it a tad bit better then 580. Ofc: this assumes the resolution used for the Metro benches of that pic to be the same which is unknown @ this time which means my findings may be quite a bit skewed, depending on the resolution used.

Even if it doesn't surpass 580 in this particular game, that's still one heck of an improvement on tessellation.

EDIT

Assuming the resolution used for this chart is 2560x1600, i'm gonna do a quick comparison to check how much the 580 is ahead of the 480 and, using the chart posted by Jiraiya, how much the 6970 has over the 580:

Battleforge: 580 is ~17% over 480 and 6970 is ~13% over 480 which means 580 is ahead by ~4%

AvP: 580 is ~14% over 480 and 6970 is ~4% over 480 which means 580 is ahead by ~10%

Metro 2033: 580 is ~17,8% over 480 and 6970 is ~25% over 480 which means 6970 is ahead by ~7.2%

Didn't include Dirt 2 and Riddick Dark Athena because both have 4AA in W1zzard's review but have 8AA in Jiraiya's chart.

Of the 3 games, only Metro 2033 gives the lead to 6970. Apparently, AMD has improved on it's weakness of previous generation but has neglected to do the same for it's past strengths and this seems to show.

EDIT #2

Just noticed that dunno if any of the games settings are a match or not

I personally never believe the GPU manufacturers benchmarks, because as i said before, for some reason their own cards always seems to come out on top. lol

True, they probably weren't confident having it mingle with the 580.

So far it's looking pretty disappointing, but that's probably because i was expecting more.:ohwell:

Using the same graphs as in my previous post, i'm gonna do a quick comparison to check how much the 480 is ahead of the 5870 and, using the chart posted by Jiraiya, how much next gen AMD's top single GPU card, the 6970, has over the current gen top single GPU card, the 5870:

Battleforge: 480 is ~29.8% over 5870 and 6970 is ~13% over 480 which means 6970 is ahead by ~46.6%

AvP: 480 is ~23.2% over 5870 and 6970 is ~4% over 480 which means 6970 is ahead by ~28.1%

Metro 2033: 480 is ~35,8% over 5870 and 6970 is ~25% over 480 which means 6970 is ahead by ~69.8%

Comparing to the previous generation, that's quite an improvement.

i just think people are expecting to much of the 40nm process we should be at 28nm or 32nm or w.e but obviously were not so still a 6970 will basically match or exceed 5870 xfire or a 5970 so its basically a 2x performance jump on the same die node so whats not to like granted its not true 2x but if u compare 2x dual cards or the highest end card of the previous gen its not a bad transition

4870x2 = 5870
5870 *2 in xfire = 6970
so not all bad when you look at it that way

Two HD 6870's in CrossfireX match or exceed the HD 5970. So long as the HD 6970 costs cheaper than 2 x HD 6870's, then only then would it make for a good price/performance card.

to be honest i really dont give a shit i just want a good product that works at a price i can afford with a performance ratio that isnt terrible examples of what i dont want 8800ultra 5% over a gtx but way more expensive 2900xt yadda yadda both the 580 and 6970 fit my budget for dual cards so it comes down to whatever company gives me the best price other then i just dont give a shit sticking to 1 brand just makes you blind.

Out of all the reviews out there that are supposedly covering this, why are they not comparing it to the 580, the obvious real contenders? All these seem fake, or outdated.

this would put them as-good-as on par with the 5xx nvidia series, interesting...

well thats your opinion and your entitled to it, but i still stand by what i said. Barts/Cayman is a much better solution than what? Barts is about on par with GF104, albeit it consumes a bit less power, hardly making it MUCH better, and Cayman hasn't materialised yet, so we'll see. also from a performance only standpoint the GF100 varaints mostly beat out their AMD counterparts. lateness aside this is, and yes I'm willing to grant that was a big cock up on Nv's part.

I'm not sure the CEO is 'plauged' by his own mindless arrogance, he knows his teams dropped the ball on GF110 and since then the chips coming out of the fabs have been just fine, GF104/106/108 and 110.

what is Nvidia really about? making money. so is AMD.

There’s a lot of facts and fictions circulating all over the internet, all you have to do is desirer which is which and you will see what I along with many others see what NVIDIA is really about.

Could careless about whether or not the CEO,CFO or janitor working for a company is an arrogant a hole, They can think they are on top of the world all they want, why does that matter to you?, the product is what's important, and i don't think the CEO's personal traits had anything to do with Fermi's inefficiency's. But i have seen your posts before, and this something expected, as you tend to be very one sided.
