Well that's the nail in the coffin for me; I was hoping Apple would start putting more powerful GPUs in their Macbook line so I could get one for the superior battery life, build quality and decent gaming performance (running Windows on it of course).
Not happening :3

I wouldn't buy a product which has a logo of an apple which someone else has taken a bite out of.

But none the less apple can shoot themselves in both feet and avid customers will still say mac is better using every excuse in the book to make mac look superior to PC in every way.

current Macbooks <=13" have 320M. 15" and 17" have 330M.

This is still a very early look. Drivers and hardware both aren't final, but the initial results are very promising. Sandy Bridge puts all current integrated graphics solutions to shame, and even looks to nip at the heels of low end discrete GPUs.

The base 13-inch MacBook and MBP(note it's not Media Access Control) currently have the 25W C2D P8600 and 320M(TDP unknown, I guess somewhere around 20W?).
If it's updated with a Sandy Bridge part like the 35W i5 2520M + 2W SB obviously the CPU performance would be much better but with less GPU power than 320M. TDP should be lower, too.

15" and 17" MBP would still have discreet GPUs of some sort. They would still have the Optimus-like GPU switching technology.


By "current comming chips are comming with 5600 series levels of graphics shipping quarter 1" I assume you were referring to Llano?
Not much detail is out so I will just list what I know about Llano: 2.5-25W per core, up to 480 SPs, Q2 2011. Have no idea about any specific model(s).

By the time Trinity is out, Ivy Bridge will be out too.


In the end, this whole discussion is still based on speculations from analysts. It's not like Apple actually announced anything.
