a 980x will easily get you 2/3 years. 12cores is more then enough to handle anything you would be doing

well it's good you decided to wait, for that amount of money it would suck to drop it and then have a much faster cpu come out for less money within a month.

Id get the 980x really. Intel's new sandy bridge processors contain hardware level DRM Handicap and Killswitch. So if you pirate any movies or anything, intel can put a stop to it.

I don't see where you come to that conclusion from that review. Every bench they ran was at default values for every cpu tested.

Everyone who read that reviews came to that conclusion, the reviewers came to that conclusion. Well I guess everyone except those who bought a 980.

While six cores are nice, you're better off pocketing the difference in cost and enjoying nearly the same performance across the board (if not better in many cases).

ye i know but it's just a pure beast, and beleive me emulation needs raw power, plus the games look so damned good in comparison to what they did on the original consoles

but as i said it's not just emulation it's video encoding/decoding and speed

how much is a i7 920 worth second hand ?

Going for about £140 inc RMSD on other forums

^ well if i do you know it's never been overclocked so ya never know ;)

anyways weird news here as everyone in the uk knows our vat has gone up,
so after tuesday i checked scan, the place i was going to get it from and yes it had gone up in price by £18 which was to be expected,

now here's the thing it's now shot up to £791.98 ,

whilst overclockers which had there's at £785 before the vat increase had gone upto £804, but has now gone back down to £791.99

:wtf: do they know i want one and have put it up :banghead:

why the heck have they gone up so much? is their something going on that i don't know about i'm confused.gif

In a state of flux...
I really dont think its worth spunking 600 quid on 2 extra cores and 4 fake ones to be honest.

For that much money you could buy some serious SSD e-peen, new RAM & a 6950 (sell your current stuff) and call your rig done.....plus still have some spare cash to get some "random fanny" as NdMk2o1o said.

If you really must have 6c/12t then pick up a nice 970 from the US for a lot cheaper than the UK. :)

 ye the us has them at 999 bucks which is about £649 and that's for the 980x :wtf::banghead:

i haven't looked to see the prices on the 970 in the us, but the 970 sells for about £714 here in the uk, or about 1110.12 US$
