Water cooling help needed

Does anyone not think though that the dual dvd drive bay resovoir might be a bit too big? or should it be fine?

Also now that I remember, after the water exits the CPU would it be a good idea to split the tubing so that instead of a series loop where the heat may be transfered from previous parts theres a parallel loop?

A res slightly larger than your needs isn't ever a bad thing. The other way can be quite a hassle.

I've never heard of parallel config in watercooling. Might just be me though. You need to factor in that your pump's efficiency gets cut in half for either branch of the parallel setup. If you feel your pump can handle that, then it might be a good idea. But like I said, never heard of parallel personally.

Although I might not be reading this right I'll try to answer.
With WC'ing you want as much water as the loop can handle. Unlike what you see in cars. The "loop" there isn't designed to cool the engine but maintain a certain temperature. Ever notice the smaller reservoirs (which is designed for overflow)? With WC'ing your not trying to maintain a certain temp but get as low of a temp (close to ambient) as possible. Having a larger reservoir could help in this avenue. As the water coming from the radiator into the res (if you have it setup that way) will have a larger cool down time before re-entering the pump/loop again.

Almost forgot. When setting up a loop you want the reservoir to be elevated higher then the pump.

In that case I'll get the bigger resovoir which includes better pump and a 360 radiator with fans.

I just set up my XSPC Rasa RS240 today. Realized it has a pump/res combo too. Very easy to setup, and at idle, it keeps my 920 only 4 degrees above ambient.
And my Arctic Silver 5 hasn't even cured yet. I'm also awaiting my four Scythe Slipstream fans to set up push/pull.

Ok So I'm about to order a radiator and that resorvoir/pump combo I talked about earlier. I'm going to get the XSPC RS360 Rad, I saw a review of tripple rads where its brother the RX scored quite well and I've noticed that the RS is just slimmer. Does anyone know if I'll still get good temps or a good link to a review? I can't see the temp difference beeing too massive and I don't really have the option to choose another but I'm still curious.

OK so I think I found a review but nevermind the review I just downloaded one of those spreadsheets that does calculations based on data you give it and when calculating my possible total power consumption I found that my system will consume including all the water parts 588w.

With one XSPC RS360 water out-air in is 16. Some people say it should be <10. When I add a 120 rad to the mix it goes down to 12 and a 240 goes down to 10 with 1350RPM fans but at the same time I'm not looking for amazing temps here. Just a setup that won't make my gtx 460s go over 50c and my cpu over 40c then I'm happy.

someone on XS is having an issue right now with a single 360 rad and a pair of 480's he is hitting 60C on the VGA's and a bit higher on the i7. his water temps are 42C which is crazy high.

i hold room temps on my rig load temp around 40C right now i am running

3.5" bay res ->laing D4 -> maze 4 GPU -> laing D5 -> MCR320 -> MCR420 -> Fuzion V1 w/ quad insert

i have had several cpu's in it anywere from a 1090t to a sempron 2500+ socket 754.

if i was you i would mod the case out and stuff a pair of big rads overkill on water isn't a bad thing

Hmm, I might get a 120mm or 240mm rad later on to add to the loop. I think I'll get a 120mm though as a 240 doesn't offer me any massive improvements and 360 + 120 is cheaper than 1 480 so....

120's suck i wouldn't if your going to build it i really strongly recommend you get at least a 240

Right, what about one XSPC RX480. I see that the RX are much thicker so that may be a better long term solution. I'm gonna look at some reviews for that. It looks like a monster of a radiator!

hmm, that is true but XSPC is the only option I have and they don't do a RS in a 480 and I just thought about it now that if I skimp I'll be paying in the long run!

What sort of setup are you running that you need a 360 and a 480?

Ah I see.

Quick question do you think I'd see a difference if I connected all my blocks one after the other compared to if I split the tube coming out of the CPU with two seperate pipes going to each GPU and then they join after?

Nope you won't though there are some companies that sell adapters that run parallel... I would split them up with a rad so loop went rad1 into cpu than rad2 then gpus so you ran cooler.

Res/Pump > Splitter(one for each rad) > XSPC RS240> CPU > XSPC RS360> GPU1> GPU2 > Res/Pump.....

Edit: wait a sec I don't need the splitter, it would go as follows:
Res/Pump > XSPC RS240 > CPU > XSPC RS360> GPU1> GPU2 > Res/Pump.....

flip the 240 and 360 and you are good to go the GPU's do put out more heat but the cpu needs to be kept cooler so i would cool it more
