I have my q8300 running @ 3.3 ghz @ the moment.
I just ran prime95 for over 38 hours, and its still working with no errors thus far.
the weird thing is. its stable accoording to prime95 but whenever i go play heavy duty games like Bf bad company 2 online, Armed Assault 2, etc the display driver crashes and i have to reboot to recover the gfx to normal working state.
@ the moment i have my gfx clocks set to default.
Usually my display driver only crashes when i OC the gfx, but now it crashes with the clocks on default...
has this anything to do with the PCI-E frequency that can be set in the bios ?.
cuz i read somewhere increasing the pci-e frequency increases the bandwidth.
the pcie frequency is currently set to 100, wich i also read is the best option when OCing ur cpu.
does anyone have the same experience and know how to fix this ?
its weird cuz i run my cpu at 3.6 ghz everything stable including the gpu.
and i havent realy changed anything, i only lowered the fsb and the Vcore. everything is the same as with the 3.6 ghz settings
Here is the screen with the results of prime95.

Maybe there's something up with the GPU. I had that on an 8800GS that ended up being RMA'd.

what are you setting the GPU clocks to? GPU temps? leave PCI-e at 100 it can cause errors and hard disk issues

also you are obiviously overclocking tooo far...

if you have the pci freq. set to 100, the that isn't the problem. If set to suto, some boards bump it up to OC your GPU.

ok i tried 260.99 driver. but as i already know the performance decreases as far as 20 fps in some games. and still crashes whilst gaming, so thats not gonna work. also the gpu/shader/mem cant go any further then 700/1509/1100 with the 260.99 driver |default 680/1466/1000|, when i install older drivers i can go as far as 750/1616/1289. so i still think it has somehting to do with the fsb cuz, when i lower the freq to 400 (3ghz) it works like a charm with or without gpu OC.
i just dont understand. because this system was running full stable before @ 3.6 ghz

Does anybody know an solution (work around), has the gtl reffrence something to do with the gpu driver crashing ?. i know its not the card itself because when i reset everything to setup default in the bios, then the gpu driver will not crash....

Anyone ???

i really have no clue why this is happening?

maybe you can incease those voltages slightly to counteract the instability

Yeh, got me puzzled to. the S*** started when i did a fresh win 7 install & i did it like i always do. so im really bummed out about this, mostly because i KNOW it can run @ much higher speeds & the entire system completely stable....

i guess i have to live with 3ghz..

Thanks anyway m8:toast:

My 216 shader 55nm GTX260 craps out at higher clocks. It takes hours to show up on OCCT GPU (doesn't error, just crashes some hours in), but there is instability there. Some games it runs flawlessly, others it fails on. I run 667/1465/2200 with the 1.18 voltage mod in the BIOS (1.12 is default).

hmm im glad its not my card.. its just nvidia architecture whehe.
this is a little far fetched, but maybe its the volt mod that causes the instability.
it should not happen cuz the gtx260/280 share the exact same chip. only diffrence is, its got a little more shader chips.

can you give us the exact model of the gtx 260?

I put a screen of multiple HW information. including GPU-Z, its at the beginning of the post.
i updated the driver 266.58. with a HUGE work around the download.

I'll qualify my comments to follow by saying that I'm a lil pissed....

anyway, thats a blazing fast fsb you are running there. When you did your OC, did you make sure the GTL volts were set correctly? NB volts bumped up? Is the NB running cool?

To answer these questions, does the problem go away if you take away the OC? If so, there might be your answer.

uhm well about the gtl refrence, i tried all voltages, 0.615x | 0.63x | 0.65x | 0.667
with the first two the system is simply to unstable i cant even get it to boot to win.
and with the last two the system can't POST, so in that view the gtl refrence isnt doing anything on 3.3 ghz as well on the 3.6 ghz
the Nb voltage on 3.3ghz is set on 1.3 v (max is 1.4) same on SB both as u can see on the screenie. the nb temp does not ever exceed 40 °c. i got a lil fan spinning @ 4500 rpm on the nb. even after 38 hours of prime95 it has not exceded 39 °c
so that should be fine.

Still im really baffled bout this...
