GTX560 a steal?

I just reread wizards reviews on the 560 (especially the Asus DCU2) version and I am shocked...

Is it really that much more powerful then a 6870??? I can reach a 1000/1250 on my 6870, and I just can't even believe what I am seeing, it beats out a 6970 in most cases like seriously?

Should I just RMA this 6870 for the 560? Is it worth the extra week, and $30 more?

6950 has the same performance or better and is cheaper. You can't RMA a card to get a different card.

eRocker is right (as usual) about that.

Read here. The 6950 1 GB version beat's the GTX 560 Ti.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti is a great video card that destroys AMD's Radeon HD 6800 series, but AMD came out with a Radeon HD 6950 variant with 1GB of memory to head them off! It's a GPU war folks!

Good advice, but since he's on a 6870 I would just not spend the money at all.

With the price cuts from AMD and the new driver, get a 6950!

im the watching those 6950 prices, i got a month to return the 6870, i bout it on the 21 will continue to watch the cards till next month if nothing then ima keep it :)

only cheap 6950 is the none reference xfx's -_-

which r a gig (i would buy them but i could get 2gigs for 20$ more + free shipping and 30$ rebate..)

i can afford a 6950, only 5$ difference after MIR 6950 + 2GB + 940BE = yum :)

GTX 560 has an additional shader cluster so just overclocking a 460 won't get you anywhere near the performance of a 560. The fastest factory overclocked 460's can trade blows with a 6870 in some tests. The GTX 560 is supposed to operate in between the 6870 and a 6950. If you were to use water cooling you could probably get a 460 up to that range, but would it really be worth the expense and the time to assemble it when you could just buy a new card that does those speeds on air?

That's not better. That's exact opposite of better. The regular versions overclock just as well.

Not really.Gigabyte carefully selects good GPUs for their 1Ghz SOC edition. The regular versions may not overclock like those.$269 SOC version beats 6950 and GTX570..Its a steal:rockout:

The additional shader cluster does not yield as much a performance as you might think.
The shader power on most cards are under-utilized in many games.

That's what you expect.
The fact is manufactures only test if the cards can run at the factory OC, they don't guarantee that such factory OC cards can go higher.
It is very often shown that non-OC version cards can go just as high with the same amount of cooling.

Gigabyte has a good binning process.@guru3d, Gigabyte's 1Ghz version went as high as 1040Mhz.Thats a huge improvement from the 820Mhz clock frequency of the reference card.

They have a good binning process yes, but they don't bin for max OCs such as that 1040Mhz OC.
Which is what you imply. You can't just expect every card to reach that speed.

Every card may not reach that speed. But still its a 1Ghz version.Non OC cards may not reach that far ( depends on luck ).I'd pay $20 more for a guaranteed 180Mhz overclock. Its still $20 less than a 6950

Agree with that. But the 1Ghz SOC version brings GTX570 level of performance to $269.It is a steal:D
6 months ago, that level of performance was at $460

I would buy 6850 instead of GTX560
The real question would be: Is GTX560 worth the 50$ more than GTX460?

well i still have a month to decide which card to get and how much more it will cost, atm if i send back my 6870 (which i can do with a whole refund and no shipping cost) the 6950 2GB is only 5 more... so I think that would be my best deal.. however 99% sure the GTX560 will get a bit more stable in pricing (money savers, awesome deals, and rebates) so none the less my eyes are going to be wide open for the next month ;)
