Corsair HX1000W Question

Hey guys,

I recently bought and installed one of Corsair's HX1000W models. I wonder how good these models really are? I've read some stuff on the internet that they are the worst Corsair has to offer and they have a high fail rate.

Then again, its gets awesome reviews. I dont know which to believe.

Also, which OEM does the HX1000W use? CWT or Seasonic?

Don't know first hand; but, read in some review..., somewhere, that the HX1000W was a CWT designed psu. However, all the ones in that line before it were Seasonic types.

Nice though, solid state caps, and good air flow from the clean wiring job.
It has dual transformers on the 12 volt rails (one each, if I ain't mistaken).

I looked at that one for future use when I want\need to go to for more.

my HX1K has been a champ, takes me a 4.2ghz OC and Tri SLI with 470s (800/1600/2000) to actually trip the PSU due to power draw.

Of course yours wasnt built the same day as mine, so I cant say it is as good, the same, or worse. There is still some luck of the draw involved.

On a side note: Corsair has a higher failure rate than other companies due to the sheer volume of PSUs sold by them. There are way more products out in the wild to have a chance to fail over another brand.

Thats true I guess, well its entered its second day without incident now, so far so good The main complaints where the bad soldering jobs done on the PCBs, they where all but clean and really chaotic.

On a sidenote, am I the only one that loves the smell of new PSU's?

I've had my HX1000W for about four months and it's given me no problems. The only problem I had related to it is that I have had to plug it into another circuit in my house due to the current draw - having both the plasma TV and computer on one circuit would trip the breaker. I would recommend it highly.

And the smell of new electronics, not just PSU's, is nice.

I bought it because it has basically the same internals as this Thermaltake 1500W PSU reviewed, meaning that is is capable of providing much more power than its rating. The review said that the only reason it is not rated at 1500W is because the efficiency at 1000W is much higher and thus the PSU can achieve 80-plus certification.

I had the HX1000 for 3 years and it crapped out. I contacted Corsair for RMA and they only asked for the date of purchase and location. No need to provide proof of purchase. Got a brand new HX1000 in a month. They said it took them an extra week due to Christmas.

Cant give you that without taking out the PSU, its placed with the fan upward so the spec sticker is on the bottom of the case :

then look on the box itself. on the back of the box i jus seen a small image and the code is there

CMPSU-1000HXEU, got that one of the back of the box, if thats the one you mean. So tell me, is it bad?

look at bottom the white rectangle with code bars.... just bottom left of it there is the code.. the kind of RL written backward there is a code under it beginning with E

i too have one.


I can summarise as this:

If they work, they work fantastically.
If they dont work, they dont work at all.


I can tell you that mine is quieter than my TX750 with more stable voltages and less fan noise, and more efficient at power consumption in the 300-400W range (barely, but true)

How does it fare againt my old UCP 900W? (The switch on the back was broken, when it was turned off and on the PSU had a hard time starting up, coupled with weird noises) Is the HX1000W safer for my system? So incase it does go pop it doesnt take the rest of my system with it.
