Since I am downloading separate stuff because I am using french windows 7 I decided to do a quick checkup for whats different between 10.12 and 11.1. The following four packages were analyzed:

1-Southbridge
2-Display Driver
3-CCC
4-AHCI

No Open CL for me since i'm using onboard video.

SOUTHBRIDGE
-USB AMD filter driver
-Northbridge filter driver
Nothing changed from 10.12 to 11.1

Display Driver
-ATI display driver passed from 8.801.0.0000 to 8.812.0.000
-AMD slide-drop transcoding stayed the same
-Video player WMV9/VC-1 in 10.12 but removed it in 11.1

Catalyst
-CCC 2010.1125.2142.38865 has now been replaced directly by CCC2 2011.0104.2155.39304
Note: If you remember in 10.12 the CCC was installed then the CCC2 was installed later included in the AHCI package

AHCI
-AMD AHCI Sata driver 1.2.001.0269 now became 1.2.001.0275
-CCC2 in 10.12 but now absent form this package and moved to Catalyst package to replace the CCC.

That is my analyzis but I still wonder why they removed the WMV/VC-1 stuff???

For those who don't know what it is used for take a look there: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/howto/articles/vc1techoverview.aspx

Why is there an AMD AHCI driver? Isn't that sort of thing supposed to be sent to board partners so they can throw them up on their sata driver page?

so that you dont have to run in IDE compatibility mode?

I am downloading 11.1 now and I see there "AMD Media Codec Package" in optional downloads section. Maybe WMV/VC-1 is there;)

i meant mine more as an inquisitive statement, you're saying what i said in different words.

AHCI mode (and thus, the drivers) let your drives run as SATA instead of IDE.

this adds NCQ, hotswap, and can boost performance for some reasons i cbf googling :p

I am downloading AHCI for Win7 now and it is 77MB in size! Shouldn't it be like 20MB or something? I hope there is at least a little performance increase with it.

it will install but wont affect you if in your bios you setted it to IDE. if its the case next time before fresh ionstallation put it at AHCI into bios prior to installation and you will see benefit in performance

I have it set to AHCI in BIOS and it's connected to SB750 connector. There is marwell Sata controller too in my MB, but I have never tried it. I hope SB750 is better. I guess installation is so big, because it is 32 and 64 bit in one package and also it's not mentioned for what chipset, so it could be for all series-7xx, 8xx and lower too.

i think it includes a lot of files it doesnt need to, it jumped up in size recently.

also, marvell suck pretty hard. use them for low performance/non critical drives only, like DVD drives and whatnot.

Me too. I know that there probably won't be any performance increase for HD4000 series, but I want to try new CCC2:). It sucks for you because of WMV/VC-1. Maybe you can install WMV/VC-1 from older driver pack?

ccc2 was just a skin pack. Now it is just the old ccc1 plus the skin pack in the same package. Yes i could install it but if there is a reason why they removed it i wanna know it .

Nothing changed from 10.12 to 11.1

As a side note they need to fix this driver. I always, on all my AM3 boards have problems with mouse tracking when the SB Driver is installed. It is like it times out for a couple seconds then picks back up, then drops, then picks up, etc. Extremely annoying and no it is not something else. My X58 board never has once experienced this problem. On AM3 if I don't install SB Driver problem never happens.

so that you dont have to run in IDE compatibility mode?

huh? I just meant why is AMD bundling motherboard related drivers into their graphics drivers. Seems like needless bloat.

Real question is, is why are the bundling a driver that has been around since at least Vista SP1 and for certain since W7 launch?

Master I have AM/ and tested with a wireless mouse, a wired optical mouse and even an old rolling ball mouse. No problem at all. Maybe compatibility problem between this SB driver and your mouse driver.
