Ok i want a new graphics card so that i can play modern games.
eg Fallout New Vages, Crisis 2 and Black ops.
What i want is max settings at res 1920 by 1080 which is what my monitor can handle.
My price range is anything up to £250

Thinking about Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 is it worth it or should i go with something else like a SLI or Crossfire configuration.
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

the 570 is solid, but I'd wait and see what others have to say. I've been avoiding trying to keep track of the GPU market lately.

Mobo u are using? if its Crossfire/SLI, then for CF board i would suggest HD6950 2GB (comes around £230) or if CF/SLI or just SLI board - i would suggest GTX480 (~£200) or GTX570 (~£270)

what are the specs of your current computer? No need putting a GTX570 into your computer if your computer isn't good enough for the GTX570(PSU not strong enough to power a GTX570, CPU so slow it'll hinder the GTX570 performance)

:wtf:
I thought you were going to buy the Radeon HD 6850.
But if you want something better (and have the money for it), I won't blame you. :D
BTW, have you bought your HAF yet? :p
Just check if your DELL ported PSU can handle the GTX 570. My guess is that it doesn't even have 6-pin or 8-pin plugs to power the card.

Also to consider : used, or on sale/clearance GTX 470, 6950 1/2gb, GTX 560, etc.
Just spend a while online doing pricematching and look for the best deal you can get.

I thought you were going to buy the Radeon HD 6850

I was going to but a friend had this shuttering effect and when i research it many people had the same problem so i'm staying clear of it.

Moonpig is selling nVidia MSI GTX570 OC Edition for £235
And it is much better than the normal clocked GTX 570 so i think i will buy from him :D

The case i have to put on hold for the time being but i am defiantly going to buy it
Its more important for for me to buy a graphics card and a new PSU
If only i had more money

I wasn't aware of the stuttering. Still, there are various reasons for stuttering. But if you don't feel safe buying the card, then don't. Moonpig sure has a good deal.
The economy is bad for us all, so don't stress up because you're not able to buy. There's plenty hardware out there, just not enough good deals ;).
Because you're tight on cash, think rational, make priorities, set a limit and follow them strictly. It will prevent you from making impulse purchases that you may regret later.

Guys due to money problems the GTX 570 was sold to someone else :(

So instead would people recommend Sapphire HD 4890 1 GB
I've read the review on this site and it seems quite good bang for buck
It runs Far Cry 2 on Max at my 1920*1200res with 49.6FPS
Currently i have a HD 5450 which runs everything the same but with only 6.7FPS
When i play i obviously turn settings down and change the res down i don't want to do that anymore i want to play my games with the beauty they have been made with :)

The games i will be playing are Metro 2033, Far Cry 2, Homefront, L4D2 etc
Can the Sapphire HD 4890 1 GB play these with relatively decent settings?

At a later date i could always SLI them

I suppose it depends how much you are paying for it; probably worth about £60 second hand. The 4890 will have a high power draw and run quite hot; still agood card but without th bells and whistles. Aim for a 460 (1gb)/5850/6850 at around 100 if you can.

The 4890 is like 2 years old and doesnt support dx11 so metro and homefront(dx11?) is out of the question not to mention how demanding metro 2033 is. Left4Dead will run on pretty much any graphics card but as everyone else said get something like 480 or a 570 for 19x10 resolution.

metro and homefront(dx11?) is out of the questio

Metro 2033 runs on my 5450 which is a shocking card but this is what it looked like at my settings so i'm pretty sure the 4890 will run the game only better. Plus it has options to choose which DX to use.

There is no point playing Metro with craptistic settings.
The whole point of this game is its visuals.

My votes goes to the 6950 or the 560 which ever you prefer.
Get a 6950 2GB and try unlocking it is also a good idea.
