Getting the cover off the Gigabyte 5970

As the title say, I tried to get it off the other day to clean it out. But it seemed like it was glued down.

I undid all the screws on the back of the card first (naturally). It didn't come off.

The cover with the writing to get access to the fan and heat sink for cleaning.

Been get weird Alt tab glitching where it takes 20 secs to alt tab with a black screen before finally alt tabbing. As well atikmpag.sys crashes after install and during the alt tab glitch.

I think shes going to heaven soon.

The entire cooler needs to come off. Make sure you have good thermal paste first as well.

I got to up undoing all the screws and thats where I get stuck... Where do I go from there? The guide isn't detailed enough for noobs.

Be sure to remove the screws on the PCI bracket as well. With all of the screws out there should be a little play between the cooler and graphics card. Twist a little and lightly pull it off. If you have to force it, you've missed removing a screw.

Also, it's possible that the cooler is "glued" to the GPU harder than you may think. You have to be really careful in such a situation. Just keep gently twisting the cooler back and forth while pulling upwards and it'll eventually come off.

And of course, make sure you haven't missed any screws, like erocker said.

Got everything off and did a complete clean out and re applied thermal paste.

And this following picture is the aftermath of the fan clean out.
