I have a wonderful EVGA GTX 580. I get 150+ fps on BFBC2 and a fan that is noticeable. If i put on V sync i get a stable 60fps and a fan that whispers.

My question is this, with 28nm 6 months away at least (my next real upgrade because that's the tart i am) is it worth me moving to a GTX 580 Direct CU II? I know W1zz and e-rocker have them and i know they are super quiet.

Being a noise fascist is it worth the move? Bearing in mind i don't mind using vsync to stop my card from needlessly churning out 150 fps, is there any technical requirement (BF3?)

I'd sell my card back on flea bay for near £300 so it's not really a money issue (can get a CU II for £375).

And when 28nm comes round can somebody remind me to wait for a fecking custom card :D

open msi after burner, reset fan profile, win!

lol 75lbs is alot, more than a new cooler in fact, so if you must, just get a new cooler.

Absolutely not. Get yourself an Accelero Xtreme Plus with the 480/580 mounting kit and heatsinks. I'm actually using an Evga GTX 580 SC with that AC cooler.

it's not worth the money if you can create a fan profile for your card that is quiet, that doesnt overheat it, and you're not too lazy to do it

if you buy new and you want a quiet card, then that's the one to go for

Cool, thanks dudes. Just looking for some reassurance i didn't 'need' to go that way. As for the fan profile, it's not really an issue, vsync works to keep temps down. My card overclocks quite well and runs stable at 850 on 1.088v so i think it's also a decent chip.

As for the AC fans, there's something about dismantling the most expensive thing in my PC and re-assembling it again with something new stuck on top. I did build my Pc and i'm technically quite adept - it just scares the crap out of me

+1, should cost you less than the sidegrade all up and it's an even better cooler, should facilitate a higher overclock and that whisper quiet high fps gaming you crave.

Im looking to pick up a 580 and the Direct CU did cross my mind as well. If I buy it should I add some VRAM sinks to it, or just leave them as is?

+1. I run the AC Xtreme+ as well and it is phenomenal both in terms of temps and noise. Even @ 100% fan speed, it's barely audible and it's cooling performance is second to none.
