Underperformance - can't figure it out

The nuts....

I upgraded this week

Old specs
e4500 2.2 dual core
8800gts 640m
4g pc2 8500
lga775

New specs
i3 560 3.3 dual core
gtx 460 SE 1g
6g pc3 1600
lga1156

I ran super_pi and hit 1M digit in 12s. So I think the processor is okay.

I ran furmark and scored 1716, noticing my fps average was 24....
I'm pretty sure my card should be running significantly faster...
I installed the newest drivers, rolled them back, and tried the ones that came with the card.... the drivers aren't effecting performance.

The other important note is that a game I play regularly.. I barely notice any improvement in the smoothness of gameplay, and my roomate's computer, which has comparable specs to my new set up runs it flawlessly on the same settings.

I can't figure out what's going on, but I could really use some help.

why is that necessary? the hard drive is the same, and I swapped out the proper drivers

Sometimes Windows just doesn't play nice with new hardware on an old install.
Other times it's an easy fix simply by booting in safe mode only, other times you can get away with a repair-install.
Best thing is always a format & clean install though..

Yup. New motherboard/cpu almost always equals new install. I've slipped by before, like you have, but things just weren't right, so I did the deed. Better to bite the bullet now.

I would recommend a reformat as well. No matter how hard you try, there will still be junk left from old drivers that will hamper performance. I personally reformat all my machines at least 4 times a year, if not once a month to keep things running fresh. It's like Spring cleaning for computers, only it comes much more often ;)

What game is it by the way? What resolution are you running? What power supply is powering your rig?
