Should I use a GTX570 for PHYSX?

Hi guys,

Got hold of a 6990 which plays all games fine - perfect even, but i always loved nvidia for the physx side etc, some game options are greyed out because of the lack of nvidia.

Question is, will i see any difference?!? Or should i just sell the GTX570?

it will make a few specific games - such as batman AA or mirrors edge look better, but a gtx 570 is so much overkill its not worth it, sell it and buy a gt240 to work as a phsyx card instead, as it will be much quieter and use a lot less energy

i've thats the route this is gonna go, i would trade my gts 250 + £50 for his gtx 570 (gts 250 much more powerful(then a 9800gt not a 570))

Seriously do not even contemplate keeping that 570 for Physx, hardly any games support physx and at best if you really really must have physx buy a gts 220 that will handle it nicely and sell the 570 to someone that will actually make use of that monster card

yes i am aware of that, but my offers serious, would probably go to £60 and then thats all the money i've got at the moments

also have you seen where the mouse on a psp automaticly points to on your avatar if you read your post

thats not what he asked for.

he asked is it worth having as a PhysX card... and thats a complete no. it accelerates less than a dozen games, and maybe 3 of that dozen have effects worth mentioning. for the added electrical cost and heat output (and cost of the card) theres no way its worth it.

yeah but thats already been mentioned were just waiting for his reply really, its a complete waste of power- total overkill etc - we might as well give him the other options for using the card

Just decided to do it cos i have the 570 laying here, was just a fun question really, and ive tested it and noticed little difference!

I wont however swap it for a GTS250 + £50 as although the question was a little silly, which was known really at the time of posting (because of the overkill) Im not stupid (can pick up a new gts250 for £50)

The folding idea is a cracker though!! - either that or it will probably go on the bay.

more than slightly faster, 9800GT = 8800 GT.

The GTS 250 is slightly faster than the 9800GTX+ which is clocked higher and has increased shaders than it 9800GT counterpart.

The GTX570 is too overkill for a physics card, its a powerful card in its own right so to use it as a add-on card seems a bit of a insult.

Way too power hungry for a extra that won't be used all the time GTX 570 = PhysX????? I wouldn't unless you have extra money you just want to throw away constantly.

If you want a physX card sell the GTX 570 and go get a 430 GT or something. then use the rest of the money for better cooling on the HD6990 so you can actually hear your games.

Although if you are a folder.... then use it for folding.

which to me, means slightly. when cards out there are 300% faster, 20% dont mean much on such old cards.

A single slot card that requires no power pins would suffice, GTX570 is way overkill lol but would look nice on your vantage scores?

Look it was a stupid answer to a stupid question, stop arguing about it - the thread has answered his question and he's decided to use the card for folding, a point you tried to argue against when i made it, your supposed to be a mod and yet your on a thread that is no longer needed arguing about a superficial part of a stupid post, if you weren't a mod someone would probably accuse you of trolling, yes the card isn't 300% faster but its not supposed to be, its 3 generations behind and a mid range card, and its probably a larger difference then you think as the 9800 gt in question is an eco card.

Who was arguing, and the last time I looked you are right Musells is the only moderator in this thread, not YOU. I suggest you rethink how you reply to people as perhaps you weren't being as offhanded as your post would suggest.

i just got irritated as theres about 10 posts debating between 2 cards and a load of people not reading the posts properly

i admit that i might be thread crapping but in truth i'm just a bit bored as theres nothing happening today

but in general i think any 200 series cards will do nicely for physx but i think the gt210 might be a bit too low powered to work properly on some games

i've removed the post now and hope you can all forgive me for the mistake i have made

i just thought it was getting a bit out of hand and people generally ignore me if i don't make it really dramatic

210 is too weak for physX, yes.
