Sounds too expensive to be a Nintendo Product. A "touch tablet controller"? As for the actual processing power, other than PowerPC always being iffy to me, it should fair well for a couple of years if that is accurate. That CPU sounds strickingly similar to the Tri-Core that's already in the X360 which is a little saddening, it better be a different architecture\revision that is significantly more powerful. I'm a little put off by the really low amount of RAM\VRAM in current consoles, and hope the "at least 512mb" turns into 1-2GB, since RAM these days is so cheap on all levels. R700? That's quite dated...

In hope it's more N64 and less Wii. The Wii only succeeding in selling a lot of systems to people that weren't actually gamers. Report after report over the past 2-4 years has consistantly shown that the Wii has a dismal "attachment rate", basically people don't play it for long. It continues to be the go-to party system where if you have some friends over you can play some Wii Bowling or something of that nature. Since development costs are also so much lower it has a massive catalog of games, that nobody really wants to play. Most people that continue to play it are basically doing so for a handful of titles. Nintendo needs to realize that even if the Wii did make a lot of money, they are not going to be able to keep on the same path.

I only read the 1st few posts but I gotta say something... CONSOLES CAN BE PLAYED ON MONITORS... yup, it is the same HDMI port on a monitor and on a TV, isn't that incredible?

Haven't bought a Nintendo console since 1992...(SNES) My friend let me borrow his N64 in exchange for my PS1 from time to time, but that was it... Not too much into all this "movement controllers" fad either (I own a PS3 and a 360 but no "Move" or "Kinect") but who knows, if the Nintendo reaches out to a more mature audience, this might be the first time I buy a Nintendo product in almost 20 years :p not counting on it tough... :ohwell:

Reminds me of the dreamcast vmu, only not as cool being stuck on the controller. Smart move with the proc, easier porting. Guessing it will emulate wii games?

Well then I guess the primary buyer will be someone wanting to play HD wii games without messing with dolphin. Otherwise the appeal seems limited. Exclusives will be rare and by now everyone already has either a 360 or ps3. The graphical advantage is negligible, and that controller stream thing seems gimmicky and costly. In such a saturated market they'd have done well to do more to differentiate. Perhaps 768 on the ram? A gpu based on the 6xxx series? I mean at this point the cost difference would be quite negligible but the gains would be noticeable enough to warrant it.

majority of Nintendo titles are exclusive and Mario doesn't need Shader Model 5.0.

it's a more powerful XBOX 360 with a better d-pad, native 1920x1080, motion controls, backwards compatibility and cost the same as the PlayStation 3.

I think it's enough.

I call BS on that pricing. Nintendo wouldn't ruin their "budget" edge by releasing a console with pricing similar to that which stunted the PS3's growth for almost 3 years after its launch.

it'll fall in price later... as of now, they would be the new revolutionary technology...

I can see 299$ and 349$ very easily

i still dont get why on earth are they going to use R700 as a base !!!! i thought they would use the 5770 as a base: small(AKA cheap),powerful and has a low power consumption.:ohwell: only thing i can come up with is that the 55nm might be very very cheap by now! oh yeah and the PowerPC architecture is old as fu.k by now

Although at the onset of the PS3 and 360 launch, prices weren’t exactly the most accessible with some ranging near the $600 mark. Thankfully, this is a stance that is shared not only among consumers, but industry juggernauts as well. “I don’t think either Sony or Microsoft are interested in a new console till they can advance the technology, and they certainly don’t want to launch at a $600 price point,” analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities told Kotaku. “It may take till 2014 to get 2TB hard drives, uber fast CPUs and state-of-the art graphics and sell at $400.”

“If Nintendo does very well with the next console,” Pidgeon said, “Microsoft and Sony will quickly get a lot more serious about next generation.”

Most of the price is going to lie in the Controller since LCD screens, especially of that size, are increasingly in high demand. That controller alone looks like it might run upwards of like $60-100. The system itself won't be that expensive since it's already dated tech. The system itself probably costs like $150-200 to manufacture all things considered. There's also still no mention of internal storage capacity which kind of worries me.

Im callin BS too thats gonna be too much for a controller, the DC days are over, there's no point in having a controller . . . . . with a screen in it, . . . . . when you can probably just use a 3DS anyway(and make even more money from people buying 3DS).

and even a revamped R700, don't believe that one bit, its too old and is already outdated unless they meant R800 which I think they meant, nintendo usually focus's on new just enough, low power designs . . . . . . I don't see that here with R700(R790 in particular).

more than likely these are the dev kits, and dev kits don't need the same hardware, and having that screen might be useful there.

So basically everybody is saying what I said in a nutshell.

Why bother making a new Nintendo console for cooking mini games and mario spin offs?
Why bother making another gimmicky console and controller setup when they could make an improved Gamecube and kick ass with exclusive HD classics that people played like Zelda or Harvest Moon or the REmakes, Sonic: Adventure Battles, etc. I dunno.

Nintendo is failing hard.

i agree Nintendo used to extremely good games. Now it is just Zelda with motion control. The only great games on the Wii are Super Mario Galaxy 1, 2 and Super Mario Bross Wii. But they only entertain you once since it are singleplayer games... Nintendo has lost they don't have the Hardcore gamers (PC)and they dont have the Casual Gamers (Xbox & PS3) And they spend alot of money on games or upgrades. Compared to small kids who maybe get a game when they have birthday or at Christmas.

I don't see any Oldschool Nintendo fan playing these stupid motion controll remakes of the classics. They should make like the Game Cube 2 with the same system specs like the new PS or Xbox. Release all the games on the market for the console and stop building on a 6 year old user base. When they combine the power of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong together with Batlefield, Call of Duty, Assasins Creed, etc. then they would destroy the gaming market.

if PC Gamers are so hardcore why do some of them refuse to play a game before it's released because the engine doesn't stress their hardware? some of them even have the nerve to request support for a game they didn't even buy

Nintendo definitely found success with the Wii, it was just the wrong kind of success. They attempted to innovate using mediocre technology and it really is only interesting to people that don't actually like gaming. I've said it from the beginning; "The Wii is a Game Console for people that don't like Gaming". It did well because it was something Grandma could pick up and play with the kids, or parents that didn't want to bother with complex control schemes.

Having played most of the "Good" games the Wii has to offer, they are still mediocre compared to their predeccessors. Twilight Princess was boring compared to the Zelda offerings on the N64, and not even close to as good as the SNES versions, the newest Metroid game was a massive disappointment with gimmicky elements and bad controls. The Mario games are even disappointing, New Super Mario Brothers was pretty epic but Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 (essentially the same game with different planets) were nothing compared to Super Mario World or Super Mario 64.

Once again, we have Nintendo taking a technological backseat with old hardware. This game will only last for so long. With Mobile Phones edging in on the DS\3DS' area and Nintendo refusing to meet the Hardcore Market on any level, it's only a matter of time. They got pretty lucky with the Wii, it was about $150 from being the Virtua Boy 2...
