Hello all,
I recently bought a cheap Rosewill eSATA/USB enclosure for my 1TB Samsung F1 hard drive. It works great and all, but is there any way to make the HDD stay on all the time instead of turning on/off randomly and annoying me? Basically, what happens is:
1) I'll be using my laptop. Usually installing a program onto my main internal HDD or even just using the computer. Sometimes, I'm not even using the laptop and the drive randomly turns on.
2) *BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP* *several clicks* (Samsung HDD owners should recognize this).
3) Drive stays on for as little as 20 seconds, and shuts off when Windows feels like it's done, even though it had no reason to turn on the drive in the first place. Not to mention the 15 seconds it wasted spinning up the drive.
Granted, the power savings is probably nice and all, but I think turning on/off all the time is worse, and it is annoying to listen to the damn thing turn on as well as waiting for whatever I'm working on to progress because it's waiting 15 seconds for the drive to turn on before doing anything.
Any suggestions? OS is Windows 7 x64 on the Toshiba A665D in my system specs.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I use the eSATA part of my enclosure. My USB-only WD MyBook exhibits the same symptoms.
