Looking for some good sounding headphones.

Not for sure if this is the right thread area but...

Im looking for some good sounding headphones as all i have are some Sony in ear that do sound good but i want some that cover up my whole ear. I would like my ear to fit inside i think its called circumaural, i don't care for fancy looks i just want some good sound quality.

I have been looking at the $85 Sennheiser HD555 Professional Headphones , and possible $141 Sennheiser HD595 Dynamic High Grade Performance Premiere Headphones

If you have any other suggestions i will gladly look into them i have heard good things about these and wasn't for sure if the 595 where worth the extra over the 555

Price range $50-150(max)/circumaural/ Used for Techno/Dance and Instrumental music, with some singing.

Grado SR-80i are the best you can do for under $100, IMO. They are not all about bass, though.

You might want to check Head-Fi.org, they are much better when it comes to these things. Personally though, I would not pay the difference between 555 and 595, but the 555 is a bit old right now. Take a look at Sony MDR-V6, a bit lower down the line, but still worth a look. Also Audio Technica AD700, M50, Alessandro MS-1 (dunno where you can still find these).

Grado sits on your ear, but they are still damn comfortable.

The 555/558 can be modded to sound like 595/598s! Head-fi is definitely a good place to look for detailed information on this (as Fourstaff already said). What kind of music/listening is this for?

Tried to recommend the mod, but I couldnt find the guide :shadedshu. Otherwise I would have gotten him to get the 555

It depends a lot on what type of sound you are looking for. Both the 555/558 and 595/598s are bass light and slightly mid focused. The Grado SR-80(i)s are on-ear headphones not around ear like you want. The Grados have a more V-shaped frequency response curve which means that they are bass heavy and can sound a little harsh at the top.

Price range, your preferred sound signature, type of cups (circumaural/on-ear/in-ear), what they are going to be used for.

I listen to a lot of Techno/Dance such as Pendulum, Feed Me, Cosmic Gate, Infected Mushroom, etc. instrumental music. im looking into the Grado SR80i's they look nice, im still looking around

For good low end response you could also look at the Denon AH-D1000 headphones they are around $150 last time I checked.

Well i have been reading many reviews and i like what i hear about the Grado SR80i but i don't like the on ears style. So i have been reading this huge review im looking at the Lower A class and higher B class ones.

If you're looking for headphones with a lot of oomph, like you would need with your taste in music, AKG 181. Those things are amazing. A lot of base but still very crisp. I mean when a 16-bit song sounds like the most epic piece of music you ever heard... it means something. I honestly recommend these headphones.
