This is standard protocol from all companies.
There is no reason the create massive "OMG WTF" responses when you do not know the severity of the breach or even if one really occurred (there are many posers who claim a lot these days).

While it is the responsibility of the company in question to secure your data, it is also YOUR responsibility to make sure the transaction on you accounts are legit.
Do not depend upon their intrusion detection to protect you.
Your accounts may be compromised before they even realize some top-level hacker has done his damage.

I am not shifting blame here, I am telling you to keep your eyes on your accounts. Period.

It's a sony service. Bad for the people sure, but sony press and stock as well so that's some bonus points. Then again sony cares as much about bad press as they do their customers. Sued for putting a virus on customers systems in nearly every state, so they turn around and package their hard work into drm. I'd wager every system here has been infected by their product. Sure there's plenty of indifferent companies out there, but at least MS has been trying to be consumer friendly, doing all sorts of public "we're sorry, here's free shit" stuff. Sony just takes the whole fuck customers thing to a league of their own. They've always been that way.

Knowing Sony and there lack of experience in the security realm the fact that the connections to and from use ssl is of little significance if it wasn't stored encrypted.

If they where able to transfer so much data so fast they either got a part of a backup or had completely bypassed any security in place.

Just received an email from Sony, it contained instructions on how to place a fraud alert on any of the credit bureaus, I would suggest anyone who used their info for any PSN transactions to do this right away by calling Experian, Transunion or Equifax directly using their fraud reporting numbers.

You only need to place the alert on one of the bureaus and it'll automatically be applied to all bureaus.

Isn't that an oxymoron? Anonymous as far as I know is not a group that know who each other are, its just random people from 4chan. Not very organized or anything, but I don't go to 4chan, so maybe I'm wrong.
