Would it improve adding to a 6950 a 9800gt for physics?

Hi all,

I have an Asus 6950 Directcu II and in 3dmark 2011 the lowest points comes from the Physics part.
I've read that it is feasible to have an Ati card with an Nvidia used for physics only. Will I get a performance increase if I did so? (I believe it will take me a couple of days reinstalling everything and probably cooling of the Directcu II (uses 2.5 slots) will be affected as the 9800 will be very close to it. Do you think it is worth the effort?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,

I have an I5-760...

then the solution, so far is to overclock the CPU isn't it?

I play mostly Bad Company 2 game, do you know it uses hardware physics?

Thank you in advance.

overclocking both the CPU and GPU should improve the "pyhysics" result in 3DM11, as the physics calculations use both CPU and GPU aka Bullet Physics DirectCompute (~deja-vu)

BC2 is CPU only physics, so yeah o/c your cpu should improve performance, but i don't really think you should be seeing a performance hit with a i5-760 stock

OK, thanks I get it.

I pushed to 3,8GHZ the I5 and it increased 3dmarks to aruound 3500 (I do not remember the number) (EDIT it is 5500)

But BC2 gained just a couple of FPS...

Thank you, for the moment I forget about putting the other card.
