Hey all, it's been a while since I've visited here... Hehe well sort of outdated with things since sandy bridge.

Well me and my buddy decided to venture on a LAN/Net shop business. Well as far as choosing components for the client machine and server machine I'm outdated...

So our requirements are:
Client (10 PCs in total)

Dual-core (decent cpu power) - intel/amd with good board (you suggest again)
GPU (medium range - can handle modern games) - nvidia/amd (depends on the price)
PSU (your call)
RAM (pref 1gb-2gb)

Server:
A good Dual-Tri-Quad (mostly running CS/TF2 server, whilst multi tasking, pic editing, printing scanning and sorts).
GPU (medium range - can handle modern games) - nvidia/amd (depends on the price)
PSU (your call)
RAM (pref 1gb-2gb or more if needed)

NOTE: We'll be getting parts from our local store here. So I will attach the price/parts list so that you can help me out in choosing parts. Or suggest better parts/set ups for me.

Thanks in advance!

Psy~

Your best bet is probably waiting for the new Bulldozer lineup and seeing how they pair with most of those tasks, otherwise I reccomend a series of systems like this;

AMD Phenom II 965\955 BE
2x2GB DDR3-1333mhz
Nvidia 460GTX , AMD 6950 1GB , or Nvidia 560Ti depending on price.

For a PSU, I reccomend something relatively good quality like a Corsair 650TX or something. It will save you money and trouble in the long run.

PCExpress is very expensive. You're better off checking prices in tipidpc.com. Actually it's better to ask there too.

You can PM me here in TPU or there in tipidpc if you need help, although I'm about to leave the house so better post in the Help Me Build my Rig thread in tipidpc for now. No mentions of sellers in that particular thread though. But there's an item search function in the site anyway. Most sellers are located in Gilmore, some in Makati, Cubao, Kalookan, Las Piñas, Manila, etc.

Thanks for the feedback yeah, they're expensive. Although we do have other PC parts store nearly accessible to us. Quest Logic in BF homes and PC madness @ festival mall.. YGPM so we can discuss further.

@ALL:
Keep those suggestions coming. Thanks.

Starting a internet cafe needs a lot more considerations than that. Is electricity going to cost a lot? How about initial budget? Budget per machine?

In my mind, you will want to keep overhead as low as possible, so my recommendation is to get a lower powered computer.

Rough sketch: i3 2100 (or if electricity is expensive/budget allows 2100T), 4gb ram, 6870/6950, reliable power supply, about 500gb HDD. Reason why you would want a 2100 is because its an absolute beast in gaming (reliably equalling or beating the Phenom II x4), and consumes quite a bit less power, saving on electricity bill and (presumably) air conditioning.

No worries about air conditioning and power, the shop won't run 24/7 tho, but it'll be open morning til late evening =]

Thanks will consider the processor suggestions.

While I agree, I was hesitant to suggest the i3-2100 since I think it suffers a little in multi-tasking compared to the 965. Either option will get the job done to be honest.

I am really unsure how pricing\shipping works in the Phillipines, so definitely find someone that is from that region or does business out there to get the most cost-effective solution.

Well thanks to entropy I've found the store and it's also nearer.

So far:
Client/Server
Intel Core i3 2100
HEC Rapter II 500W PSU
Gigabyte GA-H61M-D2-B3
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA3
Gigabyte Luxo M1004 casing
Elixir 2GB DDR3-1333 RAM
GTS 450 (Can consider lowering gpu since mostly clients do only warcraft and other low spec games maybe GTS240 or AMD counterpart)

I say the GTS450 is a tad too weak, maybe 6850 instead?

At 1366x768 it's good enough. Why go with a more expensive card? Just to reach 130+ fps?

EDIT: The closest resolution in the TPU tests would be 1280x1024. The performance/price ratio of the GTS 450 at that resolution is 0.152. The 6850's would be 0.0137.

The GTS 450 is 5000php, the 6850 is 8100php. In raw performance at that resolution the 6850 is ahead by 35%. But you pay 62% of the GTS 450's price to get that 35%.

Ah, I didnt account for the 1280x1024 resolution and the 35% price increase, because in UK the price difference is not as large (about 20% or less) and I assumed that the scaling will carry (to some extent). If GTS450 is the sweet spot, go for it, but if the sweet spot is a bit higher, I think its wise to go slightly higher, just in case a "crysis game" appears in a year's time.

That would do, it's still a quite capable card.

If you want to "level-up" from the GTS 450, the HD 6790 is actually looking to be a good deal. A 20% boost in performance with just a 30% increase in price (from 5000php to 6500php). Way better than the 6850's 35% performance boost with a 62% increase in price (from 5000php to 8100php).
