well its been a long time since i looked at something new so im kind of clueless

res is 1920x1080

was looking at the 560ti but kind of wish they had more then 1 GB
EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1567-KR GeForce GTX 560 T...

and range is around $200's maybe 3's depends if its worth it

looking for one that i can adjust volts and wont die from a lil abuse :D

and wont go deaf with fan noice when gaming benching idc

also dont favor any side but ati seems to need more volts and tends to over heat at stock fan settings if there to low... happened to two 5870 i returned cuz of that

but looking for performance per dollar with ocing :pimp:

One of the best performers for the price were the GTX 460's. A pair in SLI does extremely well when overclocked and they run much cooler than the 470/480.

I researched Newegg and found you this. 6950 with quiet dual fan config with 2GB memory. $270.

Stock versus stock, 10% faster than a 560Ti.

yeah but if you want to play at 1080p a 6950 is a better choise imo because if you havnt got performance enough you can always put another in CF.

me too, but to be honoust a 560 ti is almost as fast as a 6950 and in some games even quite a bit faster, but the 6950 turning in to a 6970 with a biosflash is maybe worth the risk, friend of mine did it and he got the 6970 alright but with some free artifacts :) and you dont want that....but overal i think the 6950 with some driver updates and the 2gb vram will eventualy break the 560 in upcoming games like BF3.

Easy, grab the cheapest 2gb 6950 that you can find. No brainer really...

the 6950 can reach 1000 with a voltage bump ive read and when gaming online it isnt really important imo a good inet connection and no input lag does the job i think..

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
You cannot compare the 6950's 1Ghz Core and the 560ti's 1Ghz core.

That said, get a reference 6950 and flash it to 6970. OR the 560ti is great card as well.

Clock for clock they are different. Not to mention 1408 SP's on the 6950 vs 284 CUDA cores.

ATI's 1Ghz is not the same as Nvidia's 1Ghz.

I mean sure, you can throw up a comparison against each other, but just b/c one card gets to 1k vs another that doesnt, isnt a valid comparison.

dosent matter which is faster clock per clock as the shaders are different

ATi / AMD tends to use smaller less robust shaders in larger numbers
Nvidia tends to use giant big ass shaders. depending on the situations 1 performs better then the other but most times it evens out

you also cant compare core clocks on either card because

Tadaa AMD links the core clock to the shader clock where as Nvidia the Core clocks and shader clocks are seperate but tend to be set up in a 1 to 2 ratio aka 500 core = 1000shader 700 core = 1400 shader if i remember right. im to lazy to double check

eitherway comparing core clocks on the difference brands dosent work

the only way to compare is via price bracket.

What a mess. You make the point that clocks are not directy comparable and you are essentially right, but he was making the point that since both cards have a similar stock clock of around 800 Mhz, the one that overclocks higher has a little more chances to win when OC'ed. Ever since Nvidia uses the Fermi architecture, performance scales much better as clocks raise than AMD (or Nvidia's past) cards, so it would be interesting to see some benches with both fully overclocked. He has a point.

I didn't post because of that anyway. Like I said, you make the point that clocks cannot be compared, but you then go on to compare the number of SPs, which is far more irrelevant and the worst part: you got it wrong. 560ti has 384 SPs and HD 6950 has 352 (VLIW 4) SPs, just so you know. It's still irrelevant to compare them, but it's always more proper to compare SPs to SPs, instead of SPs against ALUs.

Moot point anyway. The only metric that matters is performance and 6950 at stock clocks is slightly faster. So wat happens when both overclocked.

eitherway comparing core clocks on the difference brands dosent work

the only way to compare is via price bracket.

Or like I said via performance. If card A is as fast as card B @800 Mhz, it makes sense that they will both be just as fast @1000 Mhz too. And if one OCs higher it most probably means it is faster when OC'ed.

Of course that's not 100% accurate because they do not scale 100% linearly, but in this case the card that scales better is the slower one at stock, and that's why a comparison of both cards when fully overcloked would be so interesting.
