The result is ultra high video fidelity, the way the producers meant their production to be.

A third-party display controller. Think of it as a very nice DAC+OPAMP combo on a sound card.

Basically. It would be really good for playing video, or working in video editing.

The HQV processor (HQV, by the way, is a brand name and certification, like THX in a way) is the same thing that's in my Onkyo reciever. It handles Up/Downscaling, color calibration, deinterlacing, 3:2 pulldown + Pulldown detection etc etc. Like BTARunner said, think of it as a nice DAC+OPAMP combo on a soundcard. The HQV processor is why my Onkyo, and some TVs have really nice upscaling of SD signals to an HDTV whereas some other TVs without such a great video processor look like absolute ass if you don't put an HD signal into it.

It's different that they're using it on a PC graphics card... should be interesting.

Sorry but i find that a bit load of marketing BS. In an era where we all go the digital way i can't exactly see how they can improve things beyond reference or what film makers for example wanted with BluRay?

Depends what you're trying to do. If you're playing a DVD, it'll look better than on any other device without it (upscaling, noise reduction, deinterlacing for some content, color calibration, etc). If you're playing a blu-ray at 1080P, you'll get the same as any other device. That is, unless the blu-ray is film@24fps, in which case you need the card to do pulldown and the HQV will do it better than a standard graphics card. If you're playing that Blu-ray at higher than 1080P, you'll need to upscale it; and the HQV will do that nicely. If you're watching Youtube fullscreen, the HQV will upscale and denoise... inputting 720P from a game console and outputting 1080P....

Essentially, the HQV does everything the card's own drivers do for video output, but with a $100 million researched and proven technology. It does it better (or at least that's what they're trying to sell you). Creative labs' hardware effects and processing are still industry benchmarks for quality, and most of it can be run in software, with a motherboard integrated Realtek chip. What then is the difference between Creative's DSP tech and a vanilla Realtek? Creative's software techniques, that they spent a lot of $$ in R&D on.

You don't turn Creative's X-Fi crystallizer on for FLAC, you do it for the crappy mp3s.

So pretty much it plain old eenglleeessshhh is it takes the cpu load the software renderer would have used and dump it on a dedicated hardware processor for the added tasks, leaving your cpu + gpu to do useful stuff and not have wasted overhead bogging your video playback / video ?? / gaming down.

For gaming this could give some improvement as the cpu + gpu could run smoother.
How much improvement no clue. I can not think that for serious or med video editing guys that this card would be useful, no clue, not a video editing expert, cad rendering = power power power so this fails for CAD.

I don't think they did this for gaming though as the 550 is not a gaming card but more a HTPC card or would be in the next 6 to 12 months of the life of this product before it is useless as current technology progresses.

IE: < ~ 6870 would be phased out / bottom of the list, 6870x2 would be mid, 6950x2 enthusiast, 6970x2/6990 hard core in the next 6 to 12 months if AMD and NVidia keeps their underwear dry.

This below is usually the gaming card labeling.
xx00 ~ xx40 just there to irritate a user / headless server video.
xx50 = low end entry level.
xx60 = mid mix gaming mix office use.
xx70 = enthusiast gamer.
xx80 ~ xx90 = hard core gamer.

Haha, Us Aussies speak english....but i dont think theres any Aussie connection to the card.


Its just a spelling mistake, probably by a chinese guy who doesnt speak english well.

And yes Australia has many deadly critters, snakes,spiders, scorpians, box jellyfish, sharks,crocodiles, but they are ok once you get to know them.

It's referring to the quality of the video stream, not the content contained in it. If that were the case, yeah, bad marketing
