I have to assemble a computer for a friend who will play with a screen of 22 " assume at 1680x1050 res.

These are the components that I already own ( RED ).

CPU Cooler : Zalman CNPS 9700 NT cooler for the CPU and only socket 775

Graphic card : XFX GeForce GTS 250 ( i can switch to POV GTX 470 if is not enough )

CPU : ????

Motherboard : ????

RAM : ????

PSU : ????

HDD : ????

Tower can be a cheap Thermaltake or something else not important as long as it's black...

Would you be kind enough to complete the list ... The important thing that I would stay on socket 775 ( Intel CPU's ) and a processor that makes the games run well but cheap i would get something because i also sell my own components.

Thanks alot

if u are sure you want to stay on the sk775 platform go for a 2nd hand q9550, they are still pretty good even in comparison to i7's. but if i were you i really would consider upgrading to SB, even if it's just an i3 as then you will have more upgrade options in the future.

You could also buy the bracker for the 1155 chip, like this http://www.ifocus.co.nz/Cooling/CPU...52F9500%252F9900%252F10X+Series+-+Retail.html

obviously you wouldn;t buy from there, but i'm sure you could find a re-seller in Europe.

1) 775 socket is dead. Buying a board will require that you settle on what you can get. This is a reality.
2) Decent 775 processors are generally in the USD 160 range minimum. The supply is negligible, and demand is waning with SB.
3) Your budget is a bit nutty. Low end 775 mobos are in the USD 100 range. Low end 775 processors are in the USD 100 range. Tack on a decent PSU and ram (not to mention an hdd) and you're well over USD 300 for a low end system.
4) I have assumed USD, despite you being Swiss. Maybe stuff is cheaper there, but it was my experience that everything cost more there (based off the travelers metric of average doner kebap prices).

I don't see this project as feasible. Plain and simple, too little budget with older tech that does not enjoy the same support it used too. Best of luck.

Well in that case

Staying with the 775 just to use the HS and fan is not a good idea. You could sell the and fan. But if you just want to thats ok too. You can still get 775 MB and chips both used and new. I just saw a used MB, Q6600 and 4 gb mem on Craigs list for $150 the other day. Everyone is buying Sandy Bridge adn its driving the used stuff down

Cheap Thermaltake you say? Get the V3 or V4, comes with a 450W psu that can even run something like GTS450 Windforce (a discontinued card made by Gigabyte that I'm looking for another one).

But if you're getting GTX470 then that's another story.

It's totally unrealistic. For 200-300 CHF you simply cannot assemble a PC. It's useless to buy 775 now. The lowest you can go is an i3-2100 and H67 board, 4 gigs of cheap RAM, a budget HDD, for that GPU a 500W PSU is enough but if you want to put the 470 I'd suggest 600W - more expensive - and cheap case. What about the OS? That comes free?

I think your best bet is gonna be ebay as far as 775 parts go. a 3ghz core 2 duo would be ok for gaming, a 775mobo with x16 slot, and some generic ddr-2 ram at 800mhz (4gb, or 3gb... depending on motherboard 2x2gb, or 2x1gb and 2x512mb)

a decent quality 450watt to 500watt (single 12v rail) psu should be enough. 500gb hdd would be ok for starting with, a 2nd could be added later. or you could clone the 500gb over to a larger drive later. It is possible to build what you seek, its just gonna take some looking around. an example of some stuff i found for the us of a...

Do not buy any 775 parts, especially a Dual core E6600. You can easily get much better overall performance out of any similarly prices AMD triple-core or Quad-core (regardless of L3 cache).

Your only consideration should be either AMD AM3 socket Triple-cores or Quad-cores and Intel i3 and i5 processors.

I don't know where you are shopping in Switzerland so I provided the Newegg links as a reference to the exact product I was thinking about.

Ignore Crap Daddy completely as both systems I posted and the JrRacinFan variation should be within your budget. ~ $350 USD is plenty to build a decent rig since you have a GPU. Me and Jr also made sure any upgrades in the next 2 or 3 years should be a plug and play type situation.

P.S. If your friend is going to be helping kick ass on whatever game you guys play, let him get the POV GTX 470 if the game is from this year or last year. He should be more useful if his game is not stuttering or set at medium with no AA.

Well he didn't need a cooler since he has one. Take that off and get a budget micro-ATX AM3+ socket board and you can get a Nzxt Beta Evo in there. And since he is on a budget to begin with, I am sure he can find some nice sales, discounts, or consolidate items like the Newegg Combo deals. I am sure his shopping spot has something like those.

Due to the chip being OEM a cooler would be needed, hell if he was in the states I have a CM V8 just sitting around that I would give em. BUT saw this ....

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147021

**shakes fist due to not being in the States** :ohwell:

I see what you are saying. I didn't notice that cooler was Socket 775 only. That explains a few things. It is crappy cooler anyway.

Dude, post the site you are going to be shopping at....if there is a English option. That would be very helpful.

You know it would help if you provide a swiss company that sells hardware.

@xBruce88x: Don't forget that EU prices are often a bit higher, e.g. the Asgard and Asgard II cases are ~35 euro here and that is more than those 35 doillars you mentioned. And Ripjaws (and any other G.skill, Muskin etc. RAM) is overpriced here in Europe. One easily pays 60-70 euro for a 2x2GB kit except for when it's e.g. Corsair, Kingston, Crucial, Team or A-data.
And there is no adapter needed for the Zalman cooler.

@Animalpak: You can reuse that cooler on socket AM3 (proof) However I selected a boxed cpu (thus including a cooler) so that is not a strict necessity.
Because you are likely to use a GTX 470 I selected an A-brand PSU, and because purchasing at one store is sometimes cheaper and I do not know a Swiss store, I limited our choices a lot (most models are too expensive, too small in max. power, or both. CK aimes more at cases & modding so their selection of "other"hardware is small).
I made a few lists on Caseking.de, excluding Windows. Be aware that because it includes a case and other weighty stuff, the shipment von Caseking in die Schweiz will be 15-20 euro
I selected the Asgard I instead of Asgard II because it looks a bit better and has better airflow than the second edition (because of the airflow-permitting front), while the price is exactly the same. Note: there is a 120 mm front intake fan in the Asgard, but maybe you rather wish to put it in the rear position as an exhaust fan.

http://www.caseking.de/cart_load/33e78d2c95feec24f7e080ecbbaa5282 (500 GiB storage instead of 1 TiB, which saves 13 euros).

Be clever and name stores in Switzerland that you know and consider shopping at. I can read German so that is okay.
