well like title says the scalling of the fan % arent working as they suppost too. i rlly dont care for the noise but i dont like ruunning cards at 70c+ so basicly am trying to flash it with an edited bios to achieve desired temps but not even the stock bios with stock fan speeds are working right

i mean, am getting like 80C and the fan still on like 35% max is just ridicolous, and i push the card to the max with crysis 2 while running ps2 and wii on the background just make it hotter and still at 91C the fan was at max 42%.... anoying

Well long post but i didnt forget to mention anything i guess. any help?? thank you :)

btw the only solution i found was to select the fan % i want on the overdrive but , i rather try and fix this by flashing the fan speeds i would use

From what I understand AMD drivers won't let you do it for some reason. Try using a 3rd party program such as Afterburner.

Yeah, I got a bit fed up myself and just bought aftermarket coolers as Afterburner would sometimes work, sometimes it wouldn't. A nice universal aftermarket cooler is a good investment IMO. Once you're done with your cards, transfer the cooler over to the new ones.

They release a card with a backup bios and make it so that you can't edit the clocks or fan profile in the bios.

i'm not sure what you're saying, there is no tool to flash a 6970 or you cant edit the fan ramp (yet)?

91C with not even half speed fan is a problem?

Yeah, it causes some issue with the drivers if you try and edit the fan profile and clocks via the bios on any AMD 6xxx series card. I'm not sure why exactly.

I have 2 6970s is crossfire so i understand your problem exactly. you could get an after market cooler. such as a Arctic Cooling Xtreme series, but dont forget. that these coolers dont dump the heat OUTSIDE the case. and these 6970s DO get very hot. its best to stick with the same stock cooler and set the fan speeds to 45% in overdrive and game that way. It may sound like a squadron of F16s taking off but it keeps temps around 80'c and stops the fan continuously ramping up and down, which annoys the shit out of me when playing BC2.

80'c is well within the safe operating limits of the 6970.

again i say you could go with a 3rd party cooler. but it wont dump the hot air outside the case (something which you really need to do since the cards get so hot)

and if you are running in crossfire with stardard PCI-E spacing there wont be a 3 inch gap between the cards. the fans on the the top card will get blocked by the bottom card. and that will obstruct the amount of cool air that the card can pull in.

I had the same problem with my previous crossfired 5850 setup the small fans on teh Arctic Cooling Xtreme coolers dont move a lot of air. even with an Twin Turbo Pro mounted. my top 5850 still hit temps of 80'c+ because of the fan obstruction by the lower card.

theres not that many options available the best thing you can do is buy a cheap watercooling kit like a Rasa 240 and make that into a dedicated GPU cooling loop. or just live with the fans taking off at 45%.

and the other problem with watercooling is that mounting blocks for the 6970s are ludicrously expensive
