I didn't see this anywhere on here, searched and check the first 3 pages in the games section, but as the title states SW:TOR is now taking pre-orders but still has no confirmed release date.
BioWare, LucasArts and Electronic Arts are excited to announce that they have begun taking pre-orders for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™! Pre-Order now to get Early Game Access and as an added bonus you’ll receive a Color Stone to change your weapon effect! Supplies are limited and the order in which you pre-order and redeem your code at The Old Republic’s Code Redemption Center is the order in which we let players in during Early Game Access - so don’t delay! Visit the Pre-Order FAQs for more details.

so personally i think this is going to be epic. So many people have been waiting for this game, watched a lot of the videos, and i think a lot of people will be interested to see if it is a great difference from WoW.

Personally i trust Bioware to have a much more immersive game in how you can affect the universe and whatnot with a series of decisions. Don't even need to question the storyline comparison. I haven't played WoW so idk the storyline, but i'm confident ST:TOR's storyline will blow it away. Can't wait for a review.

This is what you have to expect when you buy anything affiliated with EA.

There have been hundreds of horror stories of people being charged random money from Origin and EA recently on the pre-orders, only to have the pre-order randomly fail, or double or triple charge, or just not exist.

And customer service for Origin is probably the worst customer service in history right now. None of them speak or type in proper english and will disconnect randomly without helping people resolve problems.

It's quite sad, but this is why I don't buy their games.

Because of BF3's Origin exclusivity I won't be buying it either, which really displeases me, but I won't deal with such incompetence.

You do know there are a few sites full of leaked information and videos from beta testers in the game now. From what i've seen the game is shaping up very nicely indeed (which is why I've got the CE on order). Betacake has the best selection of leaked info if you want to see a lot more than the trickle of info the devs have released...

As for people asking how they can run out of digital copies of the game Bioware are only letting 500,000 people get preorders, with more copies to be released after the game goes live to avoid flooding the starting areas with too many people.

There are still many many things they can't talk about yet until a few months to come...
I have a friend in the testing right now and he told me, "If I had any doubts about this game, they are gone now". I mean of course that is his opinion but still he can actually get hands on.
I don't see why you need any doubts right now :)
Still way to early to get negative towards the game. lol

Personally, i've always liked star wars. The fantasy, story, technology, everything about it has always caught my interest as it should have everyone else on this forum. I'm also a HUGE fan of KotOR 1+2. From what i've seen on in the trailers, it looks like it'll include everything WoW or any other MMORPG has plus some in the storyline. That i believe is going to be Bioware's biggest selling point; well one of them.

Besides being a Star Wars universe, it's expected to include a more immersive storyline than ever seen before in MMO's.

What i'm hoping for is mass customization of one's character and ship. I'll be pretty dissapointed if every hull you purchase is the same as everyone else. Being able to choose/upgrade your ship's weapons, armour, speed, etc would(will?) be great.

I'm thinking its going to start out as the main storyline laid out for everyone the same, but the middle storyline being mildly affected by players, with the late storyline being a never ending battle controlled solely between Sith and Republic players for galactic domination. I'll wait and see as this is definitely an MMO that i'm going to purchase.

For some of you guys buying this game ,Be careful,Ea has stated that when you create your Star Wars ID ,You need to use that in Origin and the Ea/Origin sites. It`s password for Old Rep will override your EA/Origin account one,If you fail to use the Star Wars Old Rep one it will lock you out.

What i'm hoping for is mass customization of one's character and ship. I'll be pretty dissapointed if every hull you purchase is the same as everyone else. Being able to choose/upgrade your ship's weapons, armour, speed, etc would(will?) be great.

Customising characters: yes
Customising companion characters: yes (not their sex, race or body type though). You will even be able to change their AI at launch.
Upgrading ship weapons and equipment: yes
Having a ship that looks different to other ships of the same type: no

You won't be able to change the way a ship looks, nor in fact be able to choose your ship in-game (although it is free and part of the storyline). Each class has a specific ship which it gets, and that ship cannot be visually altered on the outside. Although this seems like a stupid limitation I believe it is because the ships are in pre-rendered videos which are played at points in the game, and to allow visual customisation would mean that either your ship would look different to the way it does in the video, or you'd have to have tons of videos downloaded each with a different variant of the ship doing the same fly-by (which is obviously unreasonable to expect). To be honest I don't mind - I loved ship customisations in SWG, and I like how you can have different looking ships in EVE of the same hull, however I do understand why Bioware have this limitation in place (to be honest the KOTOR and Mass Effect series don't let you change the look of your ship). Of course all space content at the moment is single player so you won't see swarms of player ships all looking the same fighting in a massive battle, hopefully when they release multiplayer space content there may be more options for making a distinctive ship.

The real strength of the game will come from the stories, and the fact that it isn't a race to max level - unlike games which have grind phases of just killing the same things over and over to level so you can reach max level and hit end-game content, SW:TOR is about your character and their companions' journeys. It is less about the destination and more about the journey. That doesn't mean there is no end-game content - in fact there is end game content for people who like raids, people who like pvp, people who like small group content and solo gamers - so there is something for everyone.

I strongly believe BioWare knows what they are doing. They know how MMO's work.
Check out this vid I edited together from day one at Comic-Con. They reveal some interesting info.

I can understand them running out of Retail Copies. But they are also trying to say that people that pre-order a digital version of the game might not have access when it goes live... how does that even make sense!?

Because no one's bandwidth is unlimited. With so many people trying to download and play the game EA's servers are bound to get hit hard.

As for the game I'm definitely looking forward to it. I liked the first two games, and certainly trust Bioware to make a product that I'll be satisfied with.

Oh and I ordered 6 copies of the CE. I'll probably play on the Deluxe or Standard version, but I really hope the CE will be limited. I'll be selling all 6... and if I can't get a good price I'll just return them.
