What is Korea ?

If anyone knows a reason -no matter how stupid it is- why the idiots in Activision decided to nix dedicated server please enlighten me.

Most likely because consoles use the same game matching system or whatever they call it. and its 'easier, cheaper & lot less time consuming' for them to make. thats why they can knock up a CoD game every year, as they forgo the need to test the games extensively on dedicated servers and such. The guy with the best internet connection hosts the game & they save some money by cutting out the middleman in the process. so to speak.

Though Im not sure if they get royalties if you rent a dedicated game server from a host. they probably do, I have no idea what the percentage is but it probably wasnt enough for them to make keeping dedicated server support a permanent feature of the game.

I remember the massive global outrage and backlash from the PC gaming community when I think it was Bobby Kotick announced in an intervew that MW2 wouldnt have dedicated servers.

There must have been no less then 5 or 6 online petitions that went up pretty much within minutes of the interview going live or being posted up on the internet demanding that they restore this feature in the game.

and of course.....they ignored everyone. The only people that werent affected by this and who thought MW2 was just totally cuminmypantsomgwtforgasmic were the massive console crowd who still regard and rate the game pretty highly.

So its perfectly clear who Activision/Treyarch or whoever want to please.

And im not going to waste my money taking part in their bullshit any longer. and now they want to charge a monthly subscription fee to have access to different maps, vehicles or weapons and whatever. If thats not another clear sign that Activision have lost their way, i dont know what is.

CoD aint Warcraft. Its not an MMORPG. paying for map & weapons pack DLC's is fine. but why should i pay a monthly fee to have access to extra features that were originally part of the game??? Is it not enough that i buy the game for £45 that they need to charge me £10 a month to have full content??

My message to Activision/Bobby Kotick is to "get f**ked"

It's sad thing that I am was one of those people.

I assume you are talking about CoD Elite. I've heard many people say that it means the future CoD will require monthly subscriptions. But I've never found any official announcement stating that. And from what I've read about the Elite service, it mostly consists of status tracking, checking global ranking, chat with other players, etc.
Any proof that the actual MP gameplay will require a monthly subscription ?

Petty your opinion -and mine- mean nothing to Activision. As long as they can milk all that $$s from the series, they ain't going to drop it. You can just hope MW3 is going to fail big time. Being released so close to many other greatly anticipated titles (BF3, Skyrim, NFS:tR, etc).

I am going to bother. Unless the rumours about the monthly payments turn out to be true. then I'll probably just pirate the game and wait for hacked private servers

Personally, I can't wait for it! But, for me personally, I enjoy the CoD titles because of the SP campaign. I like the story lines.

To me the storylines(mainly in the newer COD's) have been highly generic, the evil Russians want to nuke everyone and it's up to freedom loving Americans to save the world. Nothing of substance that would make the SP stick out exists in the series.

Reminds me of the Duty Calls trailer lol: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqGIDWRXBdw&feature=relmfu

But that's just me personally of course.

LOL I love The Dude :D

Well said btw. Too many people shit on the CoD games and the CoD players just because they don't personally enjoy them anymore. Because I solely console game now, I'm not tied up in the whole 'Activision have fucked over the PC gamer' debate.

I enjoy the arcade shooter style of CoD and the story.....that generally transfers over into the next title (ie the Modern Warfare trilogy, Reznov and Dimitri appearing in Black Ops etc etc) :rockout:

How is it a 'kids' game? I'm 32 years old, married with 3 kids. But I still enjoy a bit of mindless shooter action from time to time! Let me guess, you're too 'l33t' for CoD?

Sorry for the semi-necro here.

I loved Cod4, I loved WaW, didn't care for MW2, but had fun playing Black Ops.

My problem with the CoD franchise is the frequency of title releases, the lack of initial support (Infinity Ward, Treyach has been awesome at squashing bugs) and the cost of the map packs. The 12 year olds on XBL grate on my nerves as well, but there's an option to mute everyone but your friends now. I honestly feel that MW1 was well worth the price I paid for it, and the map packs were fairly priced as well on XBL. I think they were 7 bucks, same for WaW. When they jumped to $15 per map pack in subsequent releases I about sh*t a kitten. The rest of the following games could have just been expansions to CoD4, there wasn't much more than a new storyline, different weapons, new maps and incrimental engine updates.

Now with MW3 releasing and the new Call of Duty Elite subscription service coming, it really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There hasn't been much said about CoDE except for there will be downloadable maps and other community based features included in the subscription cost. The subscription is rumored to be either $7.99 or $9.99 per month, and that's on top of the cost of internet and XBL if you play that way. The thing that scares me about this subscription service is the term "downloadable maps" does this mean that all future DLC will be had only through the CoDE service? Will people in the CoDE service get exclusivity to maps before regular users are allowed to purchase them online?

I may cave and buy MW3, I'm notorious for it, but the ever rising costs of playing a game really turn me off and actually push me toward playing on the PC more and more. Valve announcing a new Counter-Strike title has me really excited to see what they're going to do.

Sorry for my mini-rant. I'm just getting more and more frustrated with the whole online gaming thing as time wears on.

No, actually I was trolling Wikipedia looking up stuff on FPS's, tripped over to the CoD page, saw some CoDE stuff and investigated further.

I don't think that would happen. They ran out of Japs, and the Germans refused to play the loser role in yet another video game.
Another cold war CoD would be nice.

don't you think the russians will get bored? I would like something where the bad guys would win, just for the fun.

Anyway, i am to busy finding stuff about Battlefield 3. I am sick of CoD after 800 hours of Black Ops, CoD4 and MW2. The MW2 matchmaking is horrible, takes me 2 minutes to find a game, and then i still lag like hell. So i left MW2. Don't take me wrong because MW2 is my favorite game, if we look apart from all it's flaws. I am prestige 8 lvl 60.

CoD4 newer really apealed to me, I stopped after lvl 25

Black Ops was great, because you could dominate when playing with friends, also finally the dedicated servers returned. The game took away most of the bad things, i really loved it, and then it just got meh. Only played when my friends where online. Prestige 15 lvl 30

You can call me a CoD freak, but i newer bought a map pack, because i thought it was bullshit and MW3 isn't bringing anything interesting. The Battlefield genre is in my blood, i played a BF clone (Warrock) for 2 years, because it was all my PC could handle back then, and only with silly 25 FPS. Then when i got a decent PC i played BC2. And i am still playing it now, where i can't touch CoD anymore.

For me CoD is dead and i hope Respawn Entertainment (Former Infinity Ward) will destroy them. No offence to all CoD fans.

Play Pacman, no matter how good you're, the ghosts will ALWAYS win ;)
