I would have lapped up that Steam Quakecon pack if I had the dough at the moment having neither played through Fallout 3 or Oblivion.

I still say you should unleash the full power of the 580 on Metro though, will be a nice wake up call for it after only using 5% gpu load for Duke Nukem Forever :)

If you can afford it get the Quakecon pack :)

But i seriously recommend Fallout 3/ NV with DLC of course, also for both make sure you get the mods as they add so much to the games.

Oh Duh! <facepalm> You know what I forgot to put in my poll?:eek:

Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I've not played that either and I bet it would have run away with the votes!

It was hard to decide between Fallout 3 / NV and Mass Effect 1 & 2 but ultimately if you have not played the Mass Effect series then DO IT!

Fallout 3 and New Vegas grab the essential mods to boost graphical awesomeness, play the games beat the stories and then go back and play some more this time add new quest mods

theres one for New Vegas that adds the Terminators to the game along with a giant underground bunker full of them and its crazy fun and hard. those 2 games together back to back with DLC and mods are about a 200 hour investment of awesome.

as for mass effect. i enjoyed the first game the 2nd one just pissed me off. overly simplified and the AI is just ignorant to the extreme

Change my vote to that, lol. But the MP is the money on that game, and I've got over 500 hours and still going strong, so it could be a lengthy one.

No contest, Fallout 3 and NV. Browse the Fallout 3 Nexus and the New Vegas Nexus and load up on some of the many excellent mods out there too.

I have to say it's a close second. A very close second.

Mass Effect 1, and to a much lesser extent 2, are classics. They have a nice tight story, plenty of exploring, and if you are so inclined (ie willing to miss large chunks of gameplay)you can blaze through them in a weekend.

The only problem is that the second game is nothing without the DLC, and the DLC for the first is generally crap. That aside, they are a nice set of games to play before falling off the deep end into the Fallout timesink (those who have played know).

The Longest Journey.

If you've already played it, SKIP Fallout 3 and go directly to NV. Seriously. Especially if you're a fan of Fallout 1/2.

I must admit, Fallout 3 was one of the greatest games I've ever played and I'm currently ploughing through New Vegas which is great but doesn't feel as great as Fallout 3 - definitely worth playing with HD mods.

:p

Great to hear that :)

If you look on the screenie thread i've got a screen from F3 with some of the mods im using listed to help you look for some.

For FNV get the Extended weapons mod kit as will enable you to add stuff to more weapons.

BTW, I'm gonna go ahead and advice against ME. It tries to much and I for one didn't like how it combined the action and the RPG parts.

I voted Garry's Mod. It's a hell of a lot of fun.

Others I'd pick are (ignoring games you've already partly played):

Mass Effect 1 (Feels kind of like Knights of The Old Republic to me. I think it's the same game engine, but completely realtime) ME2 was fun, but it pissed me right off. Everything was simplified and consolised right down to nothing. No more grenades, no more modding weapons and armor, no more collecting guns, combat is reduced to "Shoot, stay in cover till your shield recharges, repeat", No more booting about in the APC, no more heat-limited weapons with unlimited ammo. (Yeah, in ME2 those are "thermal" clips. You're ejecting heatsinks not empty ammo clips. Riiiiiiight. Maybe I could believe it if it functioned like the first game after you ran out of clips) So, I guess ME2 is worth your time if you end up liking the story of ME1 and want to see where it goes. Just don't expect the same depth of gameplay. It's a decent game, but it doesn't feel like I thought ME2 should. That said, I'm planning on getting ME3 because I want to know how it ends, hoping that they don't dumb it down any further.

Battlefield Bad Company 2
The singleplayer was pretty standard FPS fare. The multiplayer is essentially a consolised Battlefield 2 experience, with destructable buildings. MP is where it is for this game. Lots of fun, but it still suffers from the battlefield series's downfalls: If your team isn't working together, it simply is no fun at all, prepare for the meatgrinder. If your team IS working together, however, :rockout:

The rest of these are in no particular order.

COD:MW2 had an alright SP campaign. Pretty formulaic and it's completly scripted, but it was a good waste of a few hours if you can ignore the CODisms

Far Cry was a blast, back in the day. I think it might lose some of its charm if you're playing it for the first time now, but it's still worth a playthrough I think.

Just Cause 2 is an absolute blast, but it does get extremely repetetive very quick. My advice on this one is play it in short bursts between other stuff so you don't get bored of the action before the end.

Metro is all eye candy. The game itself isn't that good. I'd say none of those, if those are your options. Mostly because half of them i don't like, and the other half I've played to death.
