Which laptop to buy? or recommendations

I'm planning on buying a new laptop and i'm wanting a decent one that will last a while

i have found 2 that i am pretty keen on but not sure which is really better

Asus G74SX

i'd go with the MSI one, its a little cheaper with same specs, has a better keyboard, and already has the 16GB ram installed and you don't have to worry about the other guys screwing something up. the asus link, the guys say it has a 3gb video card with (2gb) dedicated. considering the gpu, that ram amount doesn't make sense. the MSI lists 1.5gb, which makes more sense for that gpu. (considering how the ram is on that model gpu). oh and raid 0 is a nice performance boost on the MSI

edit: the MSI also has a higher res screen, 1920*1080 vs 1600*900

The problem with that is if he wants the image to look beautiful in it's native 1080p res, AND be smooth, he's going to need 1 hell of a card. I'd say the 1600 x 900 is a GREAT resolution for a laptop. You can still watch HD movies and game at 720p, but always looks best at native resolution.
Play3r, can you enlighten us on what you plan on using this laptop primarily for? Do you want it to last long in terms of gaming performance? Or to last long in general computing needs? If it's gaming, then DEFINITELY get the 1600 x 900 screen hands down because upgrading anything in a laptop besides the RAM and HDD is just a bitch.

If I were you I'd look into some Clevo retailers. You could save some money, and get a better warranty.

If you don't have to have a 17' screen then a 15.6 with 1080p with something with a little more kick than a 560 would be my choice.

MSI gets my vote, cheaper + better screen if you want reasons. I trust the builds of both, so build quality does not matter for me.

Pl3r just made me the perfect thread, because these are the exact 2 laptops I need to choose between!

MSI easily has my vote right now. However I need someone to make a few things clear to me....

1. Does a 1.5gb gtx 570m have a clear advantage over a 3gb gtx 560m?? Or is it the other way around?

2. Is it easy to upgrade the GPU and CPU on the MSI?; from what I've seen MSI has built that laptop in such a way to allow easy access to these components.

GTX570M outguns the GTX560M by a mile, 1.5Gb or not.

CPU us generally upgradeable, I am not sure about GPU. But either way you usually don't want to upgrade.

Like all PC gamers,graphics card is the biggest factor,you could get an i3 CPU couple with a GTX580/6970 or something and it probably perform close to an i7 with a GTX560 or something.
Remember most games run only dual core CPU at this stage.
Although for notebooks the difference from dual and quad cpu with a mid or high end GPU,the GPU performance makes a difference in games compared to an desktop with low or mid range CPU with high end GPU.

Definitely get the MSI.

Yup. Malibal does. But it might be cheaper to go with a vendor like MSI for shipping. Never hurts to look around though!
