I'm a system builder who does quite a bit of gaming, and I haven't even touched overclocking - but recently I've been getting interested in overclocking. I want to build a system with BIG overclocking potential, so I've come here for some advice.
So here are some questions:
Firstly - processor. I don't want to spend on a 990X, but I have a few options.
Bulldozer is a disappointment - I wanted it to beat Intel, but Sandy Bridge is a little bit too incredible. Something I have heard is that the FX 8xxx series has overclocking chops. Or, I could just go with the Intel K chips. I don't want to break my back spending on this system, but it is going to be watercooled. The overclocks I want are about 4.7 to 5.3, so not crazy high, but higher than standard air cooling OCing.
With the graphics card, I don't want it watercooled because man, replacing the cooler can be dangerous stuff. And dangerous stuff I don't like. I think it'll be the GTX 560/ti directCU II OR a twin frozr GTX 560/ti. To be honest, I think I'll use MSI because they have great coolers and their afterburner is sooooo good (I've used it before).
Cooler is going to be a Corsair Hxx series.
Motherboard is a hard choice - I am thinking about three options. The Maximus IV Extreme, Sabertooth P67, MSI Z68a GDxx or Asrock Z68 Extremex motherboards are my options. I preferably would want a motherboard with an on/off switch on board.
The case is the Corsair 600T. I already use it but this time I'm getting the white edition. Its just such a good case.
8gigs of ram, as usual. I will have an SSD as boot drive, and HDD for data.
I might of left something out - but anyway, thank you for all the people that give me answers. Cheers
