Hi all. I just got some awesome components from a friend. I've using laptop for years. I always wanted build a awesome desktop. Here's the stuff I have:

Board: LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-D
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-D 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI A...

RAM: 4Gb XMS3200V6.2

2X Raptor 74Gb.

2X 7900GT.

A 600Watts PSU.

All I need is a processor. Please don't tell me to upgrade. I want to get the most out of my current components. So what is the fastest CPU I could get for 939 socket?
My board only supports Athlon 64 X2 / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 CPU. Thanks guys.

Look for an Opteron 185. the Lanparty is an overclockers board. and Opterons made socket 939 history by being one of the most overclockable CPUs of that era. with a TT Frio, you should be able to keep it cool and hit over 3Ghz

If you can't seem to find a good Opteron 185 the next best thing would be to find one of the infamous 3800 x2 chips. They were some overclocking beasts.

I think 3800X2 'Toledo' core chips only went as far as 2.8Ghz, to go any higher would require watercooling

the only problem i see here is if he wants to go SLI with that rig. even with 2.8Ghz or 3Ghz on the clocks. I think it will bottleneck any potential fairly new graphics card. I think a GTX460 might just be fine though, but i dont think theres much point going above that.

THIS. The LP/Opty combo was about the most fun I ever hard building and tweaking. Takes me back to seriously good times.

I was pretty poor back in the day. optys were fairly expensive like gold dust. and i wasnt able to hop on the dual core 939 train untill they were begining to be phased out, and I nabbed some last minute deals on a 3800X2 manchester and a Asus A8N32 Deluxe which managed to hit around 2.66Ghz and some DDR400 that would do about 470-480Mhz with 2.5-3-3-8 and an X1800XT for my games.

last me a good few years that rig did

My board only supports Athlon 64 X2 / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 CPU. Thanks guys.

The Opty 185 and the FX-60 are the fastest dual-cores. The Opteron 156 the fastest single-core at 3GHz, with the FX-57(2.8) and Athlon 64 4000+ right behind at 2.6GHz. Make sure you don't get 939 socket processors mixed up with the AM2 processors.

BTW, I have a FX-60 with full retail box that I'm interested in selling.

I remember fondly my Opteron 185, which gave up the ghost kind of early, after no overclocking, to my great dismay. It was a great chip.

Bit pointless going after an opty if you werent gonna overclock it an 4x00X2 would have been fine.

Sorry for the late replies guys. My basement got broke in and they took a bunch of DDR and a few of my fastest AGP cards. They took my lovely 7800 GS and HD 3850 I bought from Fleebay and Crags. I am so so so upset about it. I've been busy dealing with the insurance and police report. Anyways, they can't steal my dreams and I still have the love for my neighbors and communities.

Awesome? haha, Awesome shit, but anyway:

Get the fastest 939 socket processor you can get, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_microprocessors

It was hurtful to read the first comment but I'm cool. I'm not familiar with AMD processors so I thought it would be easy to post a simple question and see what I'll get. Surprisingly I like what I see in here. And hey, they was high-end parts and still to me. I doubt people still have this awesome shit these days.

Look for an Opteron 185. the Lanparty is an overclockers board. and Opterons made socket 939 history by being one of the most overclockable CPUs of that era. with a TT Frio, you should be able to keep it cool and hit over 3Ghz

Opteron 185. I'll get you. You seem to know pretty damn well in hardware. I'm very appreciated for your helps. Keep reading.

If you can't seem to find a good Opteron 185 the next best thing would be to find one of the infamous 3800 x2 chips. They were some overclocking beasts.

I'm assuming he got these parts for free. Can't be cheaper than that :/. Anyway, what you said is probably the best course of action. Unless our OP has a shortage in cash.

I'm not so sure I'll going to OC any of my components. Just like some people always keep their nice shinny muscle cars in the garage. For most old parts like AGP and DDR1; if they fried, they are gone.....forever. To me they are my collection rather than a peace of hardware. I just like to being old school.

I didn't find a challenge to build a high end multi-cores system. In fact I wanted to. Just for some modern shooting games like NW3 or BF3. It is a matter of time and money .

I know, I know my friend. Back in the days that is almost impossible for me to have something like these. Especially in the Third World country like Nam. I could only do window shopping and dress nicer so they don't kick me out of the store :cry::cry:. True story bro. Now I'm an adult and having a good life in America. So I can fulfill many of my childhood dreams including owning a few quality Gundam models. You know what I'm saying ;). It's a lil late but still chance.

Just realize that you'll have an "awesome desktop" from 2005.

Portland, OR? Can I come over to your place to have dinner and steal your FX-60? I also want a Athlon 64 X2 6400+. PMing.

Opteron 180 is what I'm running. The burglars didn't take the displays and test bench. It probably too heavy and they knew it does't worth to sell. Thanks guys. Any advises for the DDR? From my exp OCZ has the best DDR back in the days. I haven't try their DFI nF4 Special.
