As per title, Why have hard drive prices nearly tripled?!!?

A 1tb samsung F3 is now £100??!?!?!

I wonder if some of it is just price gouging.

£149.99 for a wd Caviar black in UK. Although i'd never go WD over samsung, their drives pale in comparision imo...why did samsung have to sell to seagate :'(

as evil as it sounds, that's the way supply and demand work. as soon as the supply goes down the price HAS to go up to keep the demand at bay, otherwise there would be CHAOS!!

We can get anything, and we don't pay customs on EU shipped items. There are other HDDs around but I prefer WD myself, should have made it clearer.

On that note I do prefer buying from other countries when I'm not in a hurry, just because it's generally cheaper to buy online, even with the shipping costs.

Not only are prices pretty much doubling over here, some rare sizes are also starting to resurface (no pun intended), like 250GB, 320GB and 640GB. Just to give an idea, 3 months ago, the only sizes available here were 500GB, 1TB and 2TB, which all of those suck for boot drives.
