Need your expertise choosing parts.

Hi.

Looking to upgrade my pc. I'm not up to date on the parts so any help is appreciated.
Yesterday i bought a HD6950 2Gb so thats covered.
I read somewhere that AMD cards these days work better with AMD cpu's. Is this true or is it just jibber jabber?

Don't want to spend more then €500 total. I don't have any preference brand wise other then i won't buy a Asrock motherboard and it has to have overclock potential.

I picked some parts together not knowing if it's good or not. Please tel me your thoughts.

Jibber-Jabber.

I would personally go with an Intel i5 2500K and a middle of the road Z68 motherboard. The 1866mhz Corsair Vengeance are nice if you like to stick to XMP settings.

Yes, 8Gb will be fine. I would look at Gskill for some good affordable Ram. I did in fact, and I love it.

I say they are. They aren't the best on the planet, but for the price, they are definitely worth it.

Ok nice. For the motherboard i am leaning towards Asus because i never had any problems with the board i have atm. So a candidate is the Asus Maximus IV Gene Z. Also the GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 looks nice to.

I am leaning towards ASUS when I jump to Intel too. I'm using them now and the UEFI Bios is sweet.

The Gigabyte board has SRT so that you can use a small SSD to boost a normal HD. Anyone has experience with this? Looks like a nice option if it works properly.

So hate TNT now. Normally it takes a day before a package arrives. And of course today it didn't come. Tracking says it still in the distribution center. Arch!! And the best thing is that from what i know the don't deliver on Saturdays. Come on!

Just the basics from what i understand:

Install to a normal mechanical hdd first. Get that running with all drivers, then add the SSD and enable SRT. Works as a "supercache" drive.

Those are the specs for the 2500K, 2300 is a 2.8GHz and there's nothing unlocked. The price is right for the 2300, the specs aren't.

The price for the 2300k is €159. Think i'm gonna order the 2500k. It's the cheapest one I've seen for €172. Still in doubt about the motherboard though.

Ok today i sold my Maximus board and the Q9550.
Being all hyped up over buying new stuff i sold it for cheap. €150 for both. Probably not the smartest move cause after a few hours i got lot's of offers. :wtf:

Anyway, it's time to order the new stuff and this is what i came up with:

Intel i5 2500k
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
Mushkin 8 GB DDR3-1600 Kit996995, Blackline LV-Serie

I know it's not top of the line but i'm kinda on a budget so figured this would be ok. Really like to hear your opinion. After Erocker said go for the 2500k i only looked at Intel but i'm still open for changes.

I've been hearing alot of good things about this board

ASRock Z68 PRO3 GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA ...

Asrock used to be ASUS budget line, but has since broke away from ASUS and is now making boards just as good as any ASUS board. Might be worth getting if it'll save you some money. The board is a performer.

Mmmm it will only save me €15. Kinda hesitant to buy Asrock. But the Intel path is the one to walk?
I'm seeing AMD cpu's very cheap. But if Intel gives me better performance the so be it.

Ok. But still. You will always have the fact that some brands are more appealing then others.
I'm not trying to be a wise ass but if the Gigabyte boards deliver the same i would rather go with that one.

And yeah i know it was to cheap but i wanted to get rid of it fast. Not waiting days for people to bid and then cancel their bid again. You know how it goes. And gone is gone.

After some research into the Gigabyte board i'm a bit worried, because according to the stuff i have read it can be very picky with ram.
I kinda tried to get rid of the Asrock disliking and am looking at the ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3. I must admit it looks very nice!

So i bought it.

I hope i will not regret it.

Also got the 2500k and 8Gb Mushkin 1600 kit.
Hope i will receive it tomorrow or the day after.

A neat feature i think is that i can mount my 775 waterblock without any modding cause it still has the 775 mounting holes. Sweet!

From what I know OCZ orCorsair are the brands to go with. Take that with a grain or 2...
