The bios chip on the motherboard is not removable. It is soldered in place to the mother board.

more reason to throw it in the ganges. did u try taking it to a service centre?

are you sure you are lookin at the bios chip? those are generally placed on IC bases for easy removal.

anyhoo wont you be ale to solder the new chip in?

OK I just recreated the problem with my 790gdg.....when you switch CPU's with the board for some reason at least in my case it defaulted to 800mhz and nothing I changed in the BIOS fixed it so as a Last resort I removed the Battery and when I did it recognized the correct clocks for my AII 635 and then I switched back to my PII x2 555 it had it clocked at 2.9ghz and I once again had to remove the battery to get it set to the right clock speeds...

Also when updating the BIOS in Vista x86 I had to turn everything off to run AMI Flash (dl'd from Jetway) as Admin to get it to work....and then it just sat there and I thought it was fried but I let it go for a few and it flashed successfully.....

OH yeah I also had to turn off AOD (ACC)

I installed W7 32bit and the flash program would close itself as soon as I opened it. I have also taken out the battery to no avail.

Nick, This link below is a full guide to flash the bios using a USB thumb drive :)
