I started my Skyrim install at 6pm on Friday. 43 hours later the update from Steam has finally hit 90% completion.

I NEVER want to hear anyone complain about their internet connection again in my sections or I am going to go postal on you.

Carry on.

The 6950 (guess it could be a 6970 since it's unlocked) is a great card you could play skyrim fine with one.

Not up to my standards, I am on a 1080p 27" monitor I need 8x AA to get rid of the jaggies for good and turning anything up to ultra gives some unwanted dips in places. Could be the game but all I know is with my second card utilized properly it could most likely take the game to a solid 60 with everything turned up to the max... anyway here's to hoping they get them profiles out this week or at least get an ETA todayish

Wow, that sucks hard man.

I decided to buy it after seeing all the great reviews. It downloaded at 1MBs so it went pretty fast for me. Started it up this morning and already have 85 minutes of play. I think i like this game.

well i gotta say i love Skyrim so far i have nearly 0 complaints the only major issue i found was crappy normal mapping which i fixed so not an issue

Image on the left is the original normal maps on Ultra quality image on the right is an edited normal map, this isnt my work but i have started redoing normal maps myself to suit my tastes,

the normal map artifacts are on all races and of course both genders males are less problematic but still noticeable, at this point tho Skyrim nexus is up and operational if a bit slow, and mods are coming in already.

notice the blocky shapes bleed over to actual rendering quality.

I would have raged and smashed something, you are very patient Kreij :toast:

It would do no good, Tig, as then I would still have a suck connetion and also something broken.

On the plus side, the Jeep club I belong to had the monthly meeting at our house yesterday and after the meeting we went into the woods and cut down trees with large bore and semi-auto weapons. It was great fun !! :rockout:

If you ever happen to get a smartphone with a 3g/4g connection, there's a free app called PDANet that turns your phone into a modem. I've been using it at work for better internet the past month and it works great.

One mod I would love to see with this game is a working, stable co-op mod.

Okay i think it's safe to say this is my all time favorite game. It's simply amazing and I haven't even tried any mods yet.

Game runs awesome completely maxed out. I mean all in game visual settings maxed completely out @ 1920x1080 and the game runs smooth as silk 100% of the time. :respect:

Id post a link Erocker but Skyrim nexus is being hit so hard by modders and users the site dosent even frigging load right now its crashed from to many users accessing the site, apparently the ass hats running the nexus site apparently didnt think ahead on how much strain would be put on there servers lolz

but this should be the mod, if they ever get the site stable

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30

ive also started messing with the INI file and key settings,

and ive tweaked it to the point that I run out of vram and gpu power and my 6950s tank on frame rate lol,

using extreme LOD settings land mass shadow mapping high res reflections on all water among other tweaks and of course i took those tweaks even further then most will up to 2048 / 4096 sizes up from skyrims defaults 512 / 1024 gotta say it looks pretty just dosent run all that well i gotta keep tweaking.

My dumbphone gets one bar here at the house on a good day. Cellular and WiFi connections are useless here. They just plowed in fiber along our street. They are going to run fiber right to our house (hopefully soon). If everything freezes soon, it will delay it to spring, but what the hell ... I've been waiting for the last 12 years already for something better than dial-up or satellite. (update still at 90% lol)

On topic : From the responses it looks like this game is awesome, but with a few minor annoyances. This is pretty typical given the scope of the Elder Scrolls games. The modding community will be on top of this in a heartbeat (and already are). Bethesda has always been very good about patching problems too.

the well again modding community is active enough that almost all Nexus sites are down are coming and going in terms of stability Skyrim nexus is getting hit hard as hell right now.

also edited the above post with said images there now hosted here on TPU so they should load without issue from now on

and of course like Morrowind Fallout 3 Fallout New Vegas and Oblivion ill be modding skyrim soon as well so if anyone has a favorite suit of armor in game maybe keep it in mind i might do some retextures soon and improved normal maps

quick update managed to greatly improve shadowing and LOD levels but frame rate has plummeted to 24-25avg outside with 6950 xfire gotta return to the drawing board and keep trying i guess.

I should also mention im using transparency multi sampling via the INI file which seems to impact performance significantly.

You can always steal stuff. The only thing by choosing a path does is it lets you level up those specific skills faster

Just finished the main story line, A little short for a ES game but it was fun. I finished at level 15 with the bosmer bowman. 16 hours of gameplay.

Now onto actually playing the game.

My only gripe with the game so far is archery seems very one sided once you get to about archery 50. Just keep putting the perks in archery and save 3 to get 3x crits from sneak, and you have a 1 shot killing machine.

I have to top up health probably once per dragon fight at level 15, done with potions. The rest of the time i spend in constant sneak mode. It's rare a mob actually gets to me before they get dropped. And if they do there is a good variety of shouts that help the archer. Pushback early on then the one that freezes them later. These work well with the archer build as you can do them while holding the bow, and save time on swapping out to spells.
