Yes, I used a big word.
But that's not the conundrum.

I can get 2x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card
for the same price as a good 560TI.

What would you do/suggest?
Will be running on an AMD 990 board with a phenom II x6 and 16gb of DDR3x1600

The 550Ti Sli setup is quite a bit more powerful according to the reviews I Googled.

Two 550 Ti's will be more powerful when SLI actually works. Don't get me wrong, it will work more often than not, but you'll still have to put up with problems every now and then, especially when new games come out that haven't been properly optimized yet.

If you don't mind dealing with that, then go for the SLI setup.

I would say rigfht now the 550Ti is the best performance however skip forward one year and they could start to struggle with newer titles, grab an 560Ti now and get another down the line which would be miles better than the 550 SLI setup.

What PSU have you got out of interest?

It all depends on what res you game at. the 560ti will play pretty much any game no problem with med / high details.

I have always advised against buying 2 lower end cards at the same time as you are then stuck with no upgrade options. If you buy the 560ti now then later on grab another. You can find some real bargains on 2nd hand gfx cards. Especially when a new series comes out, which in only a couple of months away.

Yes, While I tend to agree, I did that to myself last time... I got a 260core216, thinking I'd add another... but, that was YEARS ago, and, technology leaped right by me!

The core216 card is good enough to play skyrim at a decent framerate on my Core2 at 3.5ghz...
