Without looking at the political/social/whatever ramifications of what EA is doing I say... Good! These people who are banned from the forums are probably undesirable, rude, complainers found in game. I don't miss these kind of people.
Exactly. For those actually dealing with the issue this is totally understandable.
hmmm, yeah i can see class action suit coming out of this, its almost like selling someone a car, then you see them burning out in it and your like HEY!!! you cant do that even thought you bought it, i dont like that , so im taking my car back....yeah...
Buy a new car and see if you cant lose your entire warranty being stupid abusing the car. I know you can. Didn't you buy the warranty when you bought the car? You may not loose the car but a warranty on a new car can be worth a shit load more than some $50 game.

You guys are killing me with this. It makes no sense for EA to ban anyone not deserving of it. I dont think EA has little kids working for them, maybe but I doubt it. It would be crazy for them to ban over the e-peen word so I really think that is one side of the story. It does nothing good for EA to do this without good cause. I ban people for racist remarks (its a rule scrolling in our server) and never tell anyone why. Its a rule play by it or leave, or with my help they are leaving. So did EA give a explanation for it? If they did and that one word was the entire reason I recant backing EA for this. I have run clan websites and game servers for a long long time and I do not think this is unfair by any means. They are protecting the integrity of the game. No one wants to play with jackasses the game is suppose to be fun. Not to mention it is rated Mature so if it is a kid he wasnt suppose to be playing to start with.

Who cares if you get banned? All that matters is how many dog tags you collected in last night's BF3 session, right? If you get banned, you can simply open another account and buy your games a second time.

Buy your games a second time? It looks like a couple of the problems "reportedly" were for crap reasons, MAYBE warranting a forum suspension, but they won't even talk to them to consider repealing the EA-wide ban. Screw them. I'm not much for trolling, so I wouldn't ahve to worry about it, but if I made a response to someone like some of the examples and got banned? Hell NO I wouldn't buy the games again. :nutkick:

The stories of people being banned for quoting someone who said bad things is really the only part of this that bothers me.

I don't use EA's forums and I don't say stupid crap over in-game chat. I'm pretty respectful when it comes to playing games over the internet. Besides, crude jokes and racist comments is what Teamspeak is for.

i honestly cant beleive what im hearing from you people, ea is literally stealing something, THey are taking something that is not theres, in my eyes that is what it is. yeah so what you get mouthy on some forums, and they ban you from the forums WTF suspend your origin account your games are on and you cant play them, THATS ABSURB!! thats hostile, thats taken hostage your games you payed for. i cant beleive any of you are defending this.

I will say it again... Battlelog is a component of BF3 you can't even be there unless you own the game. You break the rules(no matter what they are)be it in the game or in the Battlelog forum you SHOULD be banned from the game the forum is part of that game so the same rules apply. I do think killing your entire Origin account is a bit over the top tho.

This is not some open forum(tho the way alot of people behave it on you'd think it was) So I have no problem with this.

And this is where you are wrong. For quite some time now, Publishers are not selling games, they are instead selling you a license to use the game. BIG DIFFERENCE.

yeah so what you get mouthy on some forums, and they ban you from the forums WTF suspend your origin account your games are on and you cant play them, THATS ABSURB!! thats hostile, thats taken hostage your games you payed for. i cant beleive any of you are defending this.
I do not approve of permanent loss of *your* games, but temporary loss of game-access can be quite a useful tool to make people stop being dicks.

Of course, there is still the problem of moderation... and some cases of people being banned are quite questionable.

Yes, they did. Like it or not, the agreement they agreed to when installing the game, AKA the rules of the game, covers behavior in all EA services.

where does the EULA state this? If so that is news to me. i was under the impression they specifically said a forum ban WOULD NOT result in a game ban.

and no newt, there is no justification for banning someone from a single player game that they bought, short of them pirating or somehow violating the rights of the copyright holder for said game. being mean on a forum does not constitute a reason for banishment. if you're truly defending that for any reason, you are just being ridiculous and purposefully argumentative. even multiplayer shouldn't be readily banned, though it should be possible.

I don't care WHAT the EULA says, if a forum ban results in a single player game ban, you should take them to court. EULA is not law, and the law would be on your side in that case.

did YOU even bother to read the article? this happened a few years ago and they said never again, now it's happened again on a relatively large scale.it's also still happening, with no explanation or argument. so "they won't do it in the future" has no basis in reality. that's the POINT of the story you assumed we didn't read, which i now assume you didn't even read.

ugh, i done buying from EA for awhile this is disgusting, EA down and now ubisoft down! screw em. i got enough games to play, ill support developers that dont shit on there customers

Heh. Would be nice if EA was the only publisher that's doing stuff like this. IMHO, Ubisoft is even worse, and Activision is mostly making console games (and porting them to PC) anyhow :(

Sucks being a PC gamer nowdays

of course it's legal. i encourage this policy to be challenged in court to make it illegal just to see how the court rules.

It has been challenged in court, several times, and the precedent has always been that it is legal. If you agree to terms to use a service, and violate those terms, the service provider has every right to discontinue the service.

A perfect example of this is people that Comcast cut off completely for running business web servers off home connections. Comcast not only cut off their internet connection, but also their cable TV service. When Comcast was taken to court over it, the courts ruled that comcast was in the right, because it was part of their agreement with the customer that if they violate the terms with one service, they could terminate them all.

but a single player game is not a service, it's a product. i believe that would be a different situation than has ever been challenged.
also, you have yet to show where in the EULA it even says a forum ban constitutes an EA account ban - they have only said it doesn't from what i read. your entire argument is based on something i don't think is even true!

aside from technicalities and the law - do you think this is right? do you think it's "ok" for them to lock people out of a purchased product, even if they do have it in their EULA?

i know it is legal because i know it has already been challenged in court. i would like to see it challenged again using EA as an example to see how the court would rule this time.

Yeah, pretty sure turning off peoples monthly pay services is different, as if that gets turned off, they don't have to pay the next month and they get no product. Verse a game you buy to own the right to for life (actually numerous games), and then they all get banned. Those people whos inter/tv gets turned off just go someplace else and get a contract, the next month they are back paying the bill like they normally were for a service they normally had. You get every single game you have banned, you have to spend money that you never would have had to spend. The contract for borrowing a service I'm pretty sure is vastly different than the contract for owning a game.

So I can't really see how the two could be compared.

Yeah, pretty sure turning off peoples monthly pay services is different, as if that gets turned off, they don't have to pay the next month and they get no product. exactly, because in those scenarios you are not actually losing anything. in the case of EA you have products you would have to buy all over again. it seems simple to me, ban from the forum is you misbehave enough, ban from the SPECIFIC game if you hack.
