Well, my attempt to paint the Noctua NH-D14 fan frames black failed miserably.

Ending up breaking off a fin on the 120mm fan.. :/

---------

Anyways, I figured it'd be better to just order some better looking fans.

So I'm open to suggestions to figure out what fans are the best I can use.

So I need a 140mm (That uses 120mm mounting holes) and a 120mm.

Preferably something that goes well with my HAF X.
(Red/Black Theme)

-----------

What I got in mind so far:

140mm: Scythe Slip Stream Kaze Maru2 140 series SM1425SL1...
120mm: ENERMAX MAGMA UC-MA12 120mm Case Fan

how do you break a fan just by painting it? Or is it something about balancing issue when it rotates?

I tried to get fan to spin and rotate so it would loosen the tape from sticking to frame, and I guess I used too much force and it just broke off.
Very weird, but oh well, didn't really like the way they turned out.
Sucked that I was unable to remove the fan blades prior to painting it. :(

I'm thinking about getting two of these: Rosewill RFX-120 120mm Case Fan

Opinions?

I got one and need to put it on my D14 to verify. I've mounted it and several other 120mm fans I have around (even the Noctua) and none feel (with my hand on the back of the heat sink) like they push as much air through a Xigmatek S1284 as the Aerocool.

If you want to use a 140mm fan on a D14 that has the same size frame, then get the 140mm fan clips for a Mega. I hear they work perfectly.

I don't know how much rpm you need, but here are a bunch of nice looking and well working (in matters of noise production and air flow) 120mm fans: scythe slipstream.

140 mm fans that fit on screw holes a 120mm apart: Computer Hardware,Fans & Heatsinks,Case Fans,Scyth... (there may be good others, but of these Japanese fans I am sure that they fullfill your hole requirement.

If you are after red/black I have 2 x enermax magma 120mm fans. They are pretty good and move a good amount of air. The specs say 18dba but I reckon its more like 21-22. Still a fairly silent fan.

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9_839&products_id=11338

PS. The fan blades are removable so you won't have to worry about breaking any fins off when modding them. :) j/k

Are these Enermax fans any good for use with a CPU HS?
Or are these really just case fans, where static pressure isn't really an issue..

Got 6 of them about 3-4 year ago and still working although i did regrease them but all are working as they should.

How ever i find if the fan is against some thing like the front of a case there pretty noisy although very good for video cards even more so for their price.

The fan controllers are cheap as you should expect and never used. Maybe they improved the ends were kinda messy and get worse as the sleeving is not done right\ finished. But hey they might of sorted that out by now.

I use 2 of them on my swiftech RAD and they seem to work well. not 100% sure on the static pressure figures. Apparantly the Gentle Typhoons have better pressure than these but I have no evidence of that.

Cheers mate.
I know what the general rule is on paper, but even Prolimatech has awesome fans, which users in the real world sometimes find lacking in some respects, so I prefer to hear results from people that have actually used these things IRL ;)

Apologies to the OP for going slightly off-topic here :toast:

This is why I love Noctua. This was also the question I was asking. Not if they knew if those other clips would work, but if they could send you another set.

I have nearly always found Yate Loon fans to be amazing bang for buck items. Look for some YL-D12SH-12s or some D14SH-12s.
