In my opinion, every "new" house in 21C should come with 12V DC circuit. And PC's plug straight into that. Really, all these PSUs and transformers everywhere. All that's needed is ONE for the whole damn house.

Nah, it's not that expensive. I've just checked Newegg and it's only $270. Remember, us Brits get price gouged as standard.


A direct PC mains supply for the whole house, CD? Interesting...

It wouldn't really be ideal though, because you could get several devices, particularly motorized ones, that may put spikes on the lines, which would be highly undesirable for a sensitive device like a PC.

I love the XFX rebranded PSU's. I used the 850 watt black edition (seasonic m12D rebrand) earlier this year. It is really solid and in my opinion looks amazing.

This thing looks fantastic. Definitely on my check list for new build.

Its 80+ Gold so assuming its horrible and only operates at 80% efficiency. It would only be bleeding off 250w.

I just mean the units themselves, not the companies service/support. Although I use PSU's from both companies and I've enjoyed service from both. I know those things are a factor when purchasing, but I am just talking about direct comparison of hardware here.

The design is badass, a really nice envelope.
The results speak well... the ripple is very good even at 100% load it really seems this psu can take it all.

Right, but you still never said at all how the corsair AX1200 is better than this XFX unit.

The factors for purchasing hardware you listed is your sole opinion. Many tech enthusiasts don't just factor in warranty/rma/pricing when buying hardware. Sometimes it's about performance and overall quality of hardware, know what I mean? I would rather buy a high performance part over a mediocre part that has great customer service included. I am in no way saying Corsair or any other brand is mediocre either. I actually use lots of corsair products in all of my personal machines. I am a fan of their cases, memory, psu's, etc.

I just want to know why you think that corsair unit is better. You shouldn't just shout "X is better than Y because I love the brand that makes X!!!". Know what I mean?

my 750w black edition runs my rig awesome and the 12v line etc is NICE, arent XFX and corsair PSU's made by seasonic (some of corsairs by channel wells too)? so...ther both good brands in my opinion and id happyly power my rig with either.

No one in their right mind would buy this for a 500w rig, 1kw+ PSU's are for people running high end multi GPU setups, 99% of people won't buy this, the 1% who do will fall into the high end multi GPU market I mentioned. Your comment makes no bloody sense at any level. :shadedshu

Even an 80PLUS Platinum 500W PSU would only be 89% efficient @ 500W (100% load) though. An 80PLUS Platinum 1000W PSU would be 92% efficient @ 500W (50% load). I'm talking about the "real" 80PLUS figures though (testing during reviews), not the ones from ECOS Plug Load Solutions.
