Since the very first public beta campaigns, Windows Vista Ultimate was said to have "extras", which would be unveiled once Vista was public. Now, Microsoft has stashed those extras in with Windows Update. At this point, those extras include Texas Hold 'Em, Bitlocker, EFS enhancements, and various security patches. There will probably be more as Microsoft makes them.

This is a disappointment. I was hoping to get something worthwhile, like maybe a fully featured burning suite similar to Roxio or Nero, perhaps getting MS Word as an extra, something along those lines. You know, fully featured apps, not crappy gimicks. I think this seals the deal for me, I'm going Home Premium at upgrade time, these "Ultimate" Extras are a friggin joke. Not worth the extra money at all.

I guess that's quite possible. But, wouldn't they have to make the other suites incompatible with Vista for the suit to hold up?

What, so they can learn to hack together an OS from 1000's a pieces of hastily written code from inexperienced programmers. Each "flavor", usually being incompatible with the 200 other versions of the same thing. The best part is, that one person has control, of all changes to the final kernel release.

How many hardware vendors do you know, that want to release open source version of their drivers?

Linux has purposes, but taking over Windows is not one of them. It has some excellent applications in the server market, but even then I'd go elsewhere.

I completely agree, the extras are a joke but that was to be expected. I will still need to get Ultimate though as I need the Business Networking - you can't even join a domain in Home Premium.

I guess that's quite possible. But, wouldn't they have to make the other suites incompatible with Vista for the suit to hold up?

Nope, look at all the past anti-trust and anti-competition lawsuits they have been hit with. They got sued for IE, you can install whatever browser you want, they got sued for WMP, you can install what ever media player you want. It is so hard for Microsoft to add new things to their OS and not get sued it is insane.

Should buy a copy and send him a dvd of Fedora Core 6 source code, tell him he could learn something.

Just one linux os you could send... There are plenty out there..

Yeah that would be great, then they Microsoft can learn the fine art of releasing updates that break the entire GUI of the OS and leave the customer with nothing more than a blinking cursur in the command prompt, then not even apologize for it and not release a fix for over 24 hours, and still manage to keep their loyal following of fanboys who think it is greatest OS ever.:banghead:

Since the very first public beta campaigns, Windows Vista Ultimate was said to have "extras", which would be unveiled once Vista was public. Now, Microsoft has stashed those extras in with Windows Update. At this point, those extras include Texas Hold 'Em, Bitlocker, EFS enhancements, and various security patches. There will probably be more as Microsoft makes them.

and various security patches ? what you have to pay for these "extras" now :slap: M$
