I7-2700k
Asrock Extreme7 gen3
2x msi 6950 twin frozr II PE/OC
8GB 2x4GB g.skill Sniper ddr3 1866 @ 9-10-9-28-1t

So far i'm up to 4.8 and the temps are hovering during stress at around 60-70. I don't see this chip showing any signs of stopping so i'm gonna keep pushing it but a few things i would like clarified.

1. Whats the max safe temp i can have.. I'm assuming i can push into the high 70's low 80's. Gaming isn't going to be anywhere near those temps

2. I see people recomend staying under 1.45 tops for everyday use. However is their a max recomened oc i should stay under? I'm thinking i'm gonna see next to no gains past 4.7 but i like a big epeen too.

3. Can you disable the integrated graphics on this board and cpu prior to windows.. So that it never even suggests installing the intel graphics card?

Not trolling but this is awful advise, use intel burn test. 1/4 of the time to tell you what prime will.

You want push try not to go over 73c load

I gotta say that is horrible advise.. bf3 only pulls my cpu to max maybe 40%. I agree with above post though, i ran through a bunch of passes of ibt, 25 so far, no problems at 4.9ghz 1.42, temps are around 73-78. I'm assuming daily use eg: bf3 at 40% isn't gonna put the temps up even close to that.

I have to agree with others by saying BF3 is a bad stability test for CPU. Intel burn test on max mem and 8 threads for 25 passes will show you quite well.

Are you kidding me ? I get better stability with real world programs than with fake ass old Prime 95 crap . Using Intel burn in test is ok but still not what I would run . I know my system is fully stable hell it has been running at this speed for years now not once has it crashed ! Further more I think that running things like this to check for stability are just dumb ! Taking hours to run days to run for what really are you a numbers cruncher ? If so stop over clocking ! The use of a high end game or BM like Crysis or BF3 or 3dmark06 has always proved more than enough for me in the area of stability . But if you think that your way is the only way by all means do what it takes . I am just saying prime 95 is OLD out dated and less than optimal when testing true stability IMHO . ! And yes gaming can push temps up high . In BF3 my Quad core is running at 90-100% through out the game ! Tell me that is not taxing the CPU when ALL 4 CORES are USED !

No you are right it hasn't crash for about 3 years now . And well do what you want rally . Test the fucking thing all god damn day prime the hell out of it till the CPU melts for all I give a crap . I am saying that Prime 95 is old useless and out dated . BF3 is not a heavy game ? Cool if that is what you think so what ? I think it is . I think crysis is as well . But if you want to get more out of your CPU cooling is key ! Test the thing for as long as you want . Hell go with 800 hours ! Prime 95 and orthos For all I give a shit !

As for the temps . Keeping a CPU below 70c is always a good idea not sure about the max temps on that CPU but keeping it below 70c should be your goal .

There are no max speeds other than the speed the CPU can really go ( The CPU will let you know just what MAX speed is ) . As for voltage keep it under 1.45 is a good thing . I would not go past it EVER .

Yes you can go into the BIOS and there should be a setting there some place that turns off the on board graphics card .

If my rig does what I want without problems, then its stable to me. I'm done being part of the "ultra-stable" clubhouses. I used to use p95 and IBT but in real world I'm never gonna hit that kind of usage.. just saying. Feel free to IBT and p95 your cpu's all you want.

I agree and it is not just that , You say supper stable ? Why is it you think that doing all this IBT and Prime 95 testing makes a system supper stable . I have heard many people being able to run these tests and then go to do some gaming or video editing just to have there system crash right in there face ! One reason I would rather do the above mentioned testing than Prime 95 for hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours then IBT right after that for hours and hours and hours and hours ! A stable system is one that can do just what you want it to . Not some prime 95 for 24 hours setup that pisses on it's self when you go to play a game !

You'll get no disagreement from me mate. IBT and p95 are used to stress test cpu's and people assume that if they can pass 24+ hours of these tests will lead to stability in everything they could ever want to do on their PC's This usually is true but as you have pointed out it can happen that you get a BSOD, hardlock, etc., from doing something other than these programs. If you are folding or crunching then I do recommend using a stability test program to give you assurance that an issue won't pop up, but for my rig, and a lot of other people I don't think these tests are necessary. This is just my opinion though.
