Hello people am building a new pc next week and am stuck on witch GPU I should pick. Am looking at MSi GTX580 twinForzr2/OC or MSi HD6970.
I will be playing @1080p @60FPS TV limit, witch of theses two are best for my settings?
I want to play BF3 and metro 2233 at highest settings if possible.

Rest of the PC I will be buying
i5 2500k
Asus z68 vpro Gen3
8GB ddr4 1600
samsung 1TB
corsair carbine 500r
corsair HX850w
Corsair H60

Also is the £100 pound price difference worth it for GTX580?

Thanks

Right now you should better go with a 7970.

As long as you don't play games like Skyrim and Civ V, performance is better compared to the GTX 580.

Although I doubt there would be stocks...

HD6970 2Gb.

Btw i really don't get why anyone would give advise to buy a HD7970 when there is clearly a large gap between the cards shankly1985 posted and the HD7970.
If your not a enthusiast gamer would you ever consider buying a videocard that cost $700?

Btw shankly1985, With a HD6970 you will be able to play BF3 at very decent settings (Think High/Ultra) but i think the biggest letdown will be playing it on a tv. You won't get the crispness you will get with a good monitor.
So if you keep that in mind you won't be disappointed.

Thanks what sort of performance can I expect for this card? FPS in say metro 2233 @1080p highest settings.

You won't be getting 60+fps, that's for sure.

Tone down the AA (but most probably turn it off) to get around 30fps minimum in it. You'd average around 25-35 fps, I guess.

No its from Bill shankly famous Liverpool FC manager

My hunch is correct then. You would have lost the League Cup first leg (and the tie as well) had we won against Citeh with our reserves. ;)

And would a GTX580 be about the same or better? what about just high settings not ultra

Thanks again for this real help.

That 30fps will be at ultra settings. If you play at high which is still very good you will get around 50 to 60fps.

GTX580 is on scan but for the HD6970 I would after buy from overclockers

HD6970 £275
GTX580 £371

Its that price that doing my head in, am happy to pay £371 extra £100 if the performance boost is worth it.

Personally i would keep the money in my pocket and buy the HD6970. It may sound a bit weird but i would even consider buying a HD6950 and overclock it. Maybe you are lucky and you can safely flash it to a HD6970. The difference between the cards is not very big.

I strongly disagree.

Those GTX 570s have only 1280mb VRAM, which has become a very serious limitation.

The only cards worth buying are 2Gb and up. Even the 1.5Gb is going to be a shitty limitation in no time. Sure, there's a 2.5Gb variant of the GTX 570, but it costs more than a Radeon 6970 and it's slower in BF3...

Yup. That's sweet. Buy one with a nice stock cooler and you will be set!
Trust me the HD6950 and 6970 are proven to be great midrange cards. I picked up a HD6950 a few months back and i still love it.
If the prices are dropping soon then i will buy a second one.

Thanks for your option mate so you think HD6970 2GB is the right choice?

Definitely. That 2Gb of VRAM is giving you the headroom that will make your investment not only work fine with the current games, but it will also let you enjoy larger games in the future at the best settings possible, unlike a smaller VRAM card like the GTX 570.

And I speak from experience, I have 2 GTX 570s in my rig, and I'll have to upgrade sooner than I thought, not because the GPUs aren't powerful enough, but because there isn't enough VRAM. I'm already limited in BF3 and Shogun2, and I think also others.

To top it off, eventually you can add a second 6970 and enjoy extreme quality AND framerates, while 1280mb VRAM cards will only give you extreme framerates but not extreme image quality at the same time.
