Actually, if you ask me "Will you wait for NVIDIA's next-generation Kepler GPU?"

I would say depends on the price. The sweet days of HD4890 vs GTX285 ended up in a fierce price war and I was able to get my 4890 for less than $300.

That means if any of these high end cards dip below $300 before they release their next-gen card, I'll definitely get one.

I truly am waiting for Nvidias GPU's to be released as I am hoping to really get the best bang for buck from either AMD or Nvidia. Been waiting to upgrade my single GTX275 for a while now.

I'll be waiting as my 5970 handles everything at max still. I also want to see what the 8xxx series from AMD brings to the table as it's a new architecture.

That's what made it so infuriating. It wasn't everybody that had issues. And those that did have them didn't really have an common denominators in their system that could cause the issues universally. It was all so hit and miss.

I didn't have a single Xfire issue until 8.11 drivers, then it all went to shit for me.

I went NVIDIA because AMD and the way they handle OpenGL. AMD drivers have gone WAY down hill latley.

Hanging on to my 5870 until there is some serious NV vs AMD pricing wars. I mean a built a brand new SB rig this past summer and kept the GFX waiting for this. It still plays most everything great making very few sacrifices. But I just want something "new" to go with my new rig.

Right now I'm into this dilemma...

I can order the 7950, but I really want to wait for Kepler... The 7950 is too expensive, I never in my 10+ years of PC-Gaming had ATI... But still, now it got into my mind and I want to buy the normal Saphire 7950...

Honestly, I don't know what to answer... I feel I'll do mistake. Also, I'd really like to stay with Nvidia. pfff... My mind is gonna blow. I'm not a guy who can easily spend 400€ for fun, but I wanna play BF3 with better settings. Dam.

If only I knew when Nvidia will release the cards...

I must calm asap and wait for.

I'm sticking with my 3 way 570 setup, no point going to Kepler, seeing as Nvidia are already developing the Kepler replacement called the Maxwell 22nm GPU, and it's out in 2013, this chip will also be used in the new xbox, so what's the point of getting Kepler?

I want a GPU that the next xbox will use, seeing as most games will be developed for this in mind, and most of us have more than enough GPU power for now as it is.

I meant equivelant to the new Maxwell chip, but then I read the new xbox will use the 6700 ati chip?... But that's already dated. Why would they do that? My PC atm would crap all over the next xbox 3 fold, these rumours have to be false.

Couldn't agree with you more there aren't any games right now that take full advantage of the new GPU's, so it would be silly to spend another ~$300 on a GPU just so two games can take advantage of it.

This quote off of Fudzilla is nonesense lol. I don't care how fast it is over current Radeon cards. It's coming in Q2 to Q3 2012, so it's late to the game. AMD already working on HD 8900 series for this summer or Q3-Q4 2012.

The GTX 670 ends up with 1.75GB of memory, 896 cores and a 448-bit bus, all for $499. Nvidia pits this one against the HD 7970 and it claims it is about 20 percent faster. The flagship GTX 680 packs 2GB of memory, 1024 cores and a 512-bit bus. Nvidia wants $649 for it, but then again it claims the GTX 680 should beat the GTX 7970 by 45 percent.

This is true but remember what happened with GTX 480 / HD 5870 and GTX580 / HD 6970, AMD had the time advantage and the 69xx series was supposed to perform notches more than the GTX 580, in reality that time advantage translated in less performance.
So while time advantage should give you an edge over the competitor it does NOT always mean that you are going to outperform the competition.

AMD's next 28nm generation won't come until 2013...

And for the unbelievers, here is a fun fact:

Fermi performance chip GF104/114 when fully unlocked (GTX560 ti) is as fast as AMD's high-end chip Cypress (HD 5870).

The fully unlocked GF100/110 Fermi (GTX580) is ~40% faster than HD5870.

And that with all the troubles that Nvidia suffered with 40nm, the "broken" (slow) memory controller and interconects and the fact that Fermi was heavily loaded with GPGPU features, while AMD was completely focusing on gaming performance.

28nm is much better. They probably fixed (didn't screw up) the memory controller/interconnects and AMD has focused on GPGPU as much as Nvidia resulting is underwhelming gaming performance compared to previous generational jumps.

My Aging 5870 still gets the job done for almost everything, however I got that itch, ya know, that itch of I wanna upgrade especially with "Ivy Bridge" around the corner. It would be nice to get a 7870 (when ever that comes out) and a 65w "Ivy" Quad Core for a low power rig that might very well meet or beat my current rig, hehe.

I have a 580 so I'm going to skip a few releases I think. I am happy though that they're hitting thermal limits, and happier still that CPU power consumption is on the way down.

I'm thinking it makes it pretty likely that the advances will have to come in efficiency. Previously they maxxed out power consumption, then they enhanced the cooling and ramped it up again, now they've probably hit all they can realistically do with power consumption, so to increase power I think they must get more efficient.

It's my hope that I can upgrade in 3 or 4 years time to a graphics card that's cheap, a bit faster than the 580 and which consumes virtually no power when idle, and doesn't heat the room when used. I may instead upgrade to something way faster and expensive as long as it idles gracefully.

nVidia don't have the most efficient cards at the moment, however there's a very descriptive graph posted here showing that in the bang for buck mainstream for discrete cards AMD has a significant advantage (shame they're so far behind with CPUs vs Intel).

nVidia have a fair bit of work to do to catch up. Let's hope they stay healthy and stay competing.
