No such thing as burned in on silicon. You may have increased the voltage to the core due to your mothrrboards chokes dropping their resistance a bit.

Just sold mine for $75.

It's crazy to see the median going rate for the chip go up. When I got my chip they were frequently going for like $70-80 on OCN. Good clockers went for maybe $10 more at absolute most. Mine was a pretty good clocker and I got it for $75 having bought some other stuff with it.

MicroCenter's deals are good if you can go pick them up, but for the millions of us who don't live close enough to one, Newegg is still usually the best option. MicroCenter sells CPU's at a loss so people will spend money on their usually marked up Motherboards, Cases, and other components.

I dunno about that...You get up to $60 off with the purchase of mobo with an AMD Fx cpu and $50 off any compatible board with an 2600k and the board prices seem to be about $10 more than Newegg but they will price match Newegg and TigerDirect

But of course they are just blowing the 6100 out because the 6200 came out and at 500MHz faster it just makes the 6100 look like shit. Of course to me it is kind of pointless to pay more for the 6200 when the 6100 has an unlocked multiplier.

And before anyone says it, the 6200 doesn't do the extra 500MHz at the same voltage, the VID is higher on the 6200, and its TDP is 125w compared to 95w for the 6100.

I am interested in the 6200 but ASUS, in their infinite wisdom, hasn't posted a BIOS supporting it for my board (990X), the 970, or the Sabertooth 990FX but managed to do so for every other one of their AM3+ boards .... sent them a nastygram today to see what they can do about it. :shadedshu

My guess on the 6200's is that they are/were 8150's while the 6100's are/were 8120's.... 3.8ghz on the 6200 is still a pretty good stock clock despite the 125w TDP

I don't think it works like that anymore thanks to Bulldozers modular system. They aren't disabling cores anymore, if a module is damaged it is just cut out completely, and if they want to make a 6-core they only include 3 modules, if they want a quad they only include 2 modules. With the module system there is no point in including modules that aren't need. So a 6-core processor was a 6-core from the start.

And as I said, the 6200 is pretty useless, the 6100 easily does 4.2GHz+ with decent air cooling and only a minor vcore increase. The one I saw did 4.4GHz on 1.33v, which is basically the same clock the 8150 got to at the same voltage in the same setup.

indeed, i got my 965 for 10 bucks more last year, it was advertised a bit higher on line, went in and noticed that the price was cheaper in store than online.

For example, with my M5A99X, support for the original batch of FX processors was added in the 0813 BIOS(technically 0810 but that was a beta BIOS). If I go to the BIOS page they have an even newer BIOS 0901 and the only things it lists is "Improved Stability and Support new CPUs", but not a single CPU on the support page says 0901 is required, so what new CPUs were added? It was the FX-6200, they just didn't add it to their list.

I'd actually call their tech support and ask if the FX-6200 is supported, especially if you have BIOS listed for your board that just says "Support new CPUs" but doesn't seem to be listed for any new CPUs in the CPU support list.

Edit: I just noticed you are using the same board I am. So there you go, the FX-6200 is supported, ASUS just never added it to the list.

Did you get confirmation from ASUS on this or are you actually running a 6200 on the M5A99X- I saw the same thing on the 0901 BIOS which is why I e-mailed tech support on it.....
