Hi all :)

Today I bought new Power Supply from N Power around 15$

U MAX 600 watt
, It has 120mm fan

Connectors

Connectors 20/24-pin =1
12V 4 Poles = 1
SATA = 2
Molex 4 pin = 4
Floppy = 1

Is this good power supply?

because at this moment I didn't try to put my lovely card which is HD 4890 on the board

at last time this card killed my Power supply which was U MAX 500 watt

I don't want to be murder

any Idea?

They are all made in China. I wouldn't trust that unit with a 4890, it doesn't have enough current output on the 12v rails. You are going to need something with 30 amps on the 12v.

everything is made in china!

I was looking the Umax website, and the info about the PSU is so little that i can't be a good PSU.
If it was, then the Umax 500w shouldn't have burnt. A good 500W PSU is more than enough for a 4890.

is this your PSU? http://www.umaxindia.in/npowerunp600r.html

If you had 1 Umax burn out WHY, oh WHY get another?!?! :wtf:

Get a quality 500w - 600w unit and be safe! You don't want to lose a PC because of a cheap PSU ;)

There are some stickies you can look at:

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39758
http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129456

Localy i can find my old PSU (OCZ 700w ModXtremePRO) for $55 on rebate, not the best PSU in the world but definately NOT a "Umax" ;) I'm not sure where you're located but you should be able to find a PSU for $75/max, look for something from Corsair/OCZ/Antec as they are usualy the best price/performance choice's :)

U MAX = U MAD that I blew up your computer?

I wouldn't really use it.
it is 3V and 5V heavy. that's like for stuff back in the Pentium 4 era (early 2000).

@OP: first of all: where are you located?

There's no point suggesting alternative PSUs if they're not available (or if they're ridiculously overpriced) in the OP's country.

Considering the rest of the OP's system + a HD4890, a 450-500W would be fine if it's a good one, which that noname firecracker UMAX definitely isn't.

I'm willing to bet the insides of that UMAX trashbox look similar, if not identical to those two junkers:
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/TiVECO-TVPS450-Power-Supply-Review/1436/1
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Coolmax-V-500-Power-Supply-Review/1366

Looking at the amp ratings alone... yes.. it's an overrated junk PSU. Based on the ancient ATX1.3 standard (3.3V/5V heavy, not nearly as much power on 12V), and most likely not rated anywhere near what it's really capable of.

I'm sorry to say, but whatever you paid for this thing was wasted money.

i wonder how much that U cost you?

32Amp on 3.3V rail is a sign of not good PSU, most high quality PSU under 600W usually put 22Amp or less and have 30Amp (360W) or more for its 12V rail.

Affordable but decent PSUs are made by FSP and Huntkey.

And I am not trying to be offensive, but:

- If people politely ask about your location, then please don't say "my country". That is not an informative answer. If you don't wish to tell, then please just write that you don't want to tell us.
- Spending a lot on a fancy graphics card of about $100-200 and then lacking the money needed for a decent PSU is not a case of good financial planning. It would have been better to spend less on a graphics card and use the saved money for the PSU. Those Umax PSUs claim 500 and 600 watt, but their maximum continuous load is likely to be about 200-300 watt (therefore the 500 watt model said farewell, because it was being overloaded).

I didn't even have to look at it, if you paid $15 for it, it is probably absolute junk. There are a few exceptions to this rule, but generally it is true.

For example, the Corsair CX430 can often be picked up for ~$15, and it is a pretty decent PSU. Yes, it is only a 430w PSU, but it actually has more power on the 12v rail(28A) than the 600w unit in the OP! And I've seen them reliably pushed to 30A+ on the 12v rail for long periods of time without an issue, other than getting warm the fan getting loud and the efficiency dropping, corsair actually underrated this PSU to get it to certify as 80+.

For that reason I got it in that price because it was in that shop from a long time

wow... even my 450w has 24A on the 12V.

the 750w in the ebay link is better, but i'd at least get a psu that has 2 6pin pci-e plugs. probably at least 550-650w. also, check the efficiency ratings of the PSU you're looking at, i'd go for at least %75

If you want a reliable and affordable one, look around for a Corsair CX430 (V2) or an Antec EA-430D .. whereever you actually are.

Don't take offense when I say it but you should had shopped around a little better. Especially since you are running that 4890. My suggestion, sell off your 4890 and pickup say a 2nd hand 5700. I would trust it paired with PSU a little more than your current card. The one you currently have is basically overly speccd and should be marketed as a 400w.

^ more like 200-250W. The heatsinks visible in the 2nd pic give it away: It's a Leadman / PowMax PSU.
If that doesn't make you run in circles yet, google around a bit.

Little example of what a Leadman PSU means:
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=71 (died at 184W load)

and the first PSU on this page ("Real PC Power Silence Blue")
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story4&reid=71 (blew up at 291W)

another Leadman: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/TiVECO-TVPS450-Power-Supply-Review/1436/1 (failed at 309W)

Plugging 2 molex-pci-e power to the same molex rail like that is just asking for something to burn, there are 2 connectors per pci-e power cable for a reason.

But yeah, with that PSU, something's gonna burn out anyway.

Why don't you make a list of PSU you can can buy where you live, then we may help you choose the good ones from that list.

You should be looking for at least 450W from these manufacturers:

Corsair
Antec
Thermaltake (thoughpower)
Cooler master (UCP, Silent Pro, Gold <--- all those models are good, the "extreme power" models are overrated, but if you don't overload them they should work, example: CM extreme power plus 550W is really a 350W unit)

There are other good brands, but i don't remember them right now, to lazy to think right now:p
