i have an asus 6970(unlocked 6950 2gb) that OCs pretty well.

im not 100% happy with its performance so im selling it.

i would like either a gtx580 or gtx570 and im wondering if its going to be a fair amount of improvement.

games i play are crysis 2 and COD:MW3, sometimes portal 2.

before you tell me to wait for 6 series nvidia or go 7k ati keep in mind, im selling my card to get another used card and would like to get another DCuII card for around the same price i sell my card for. NOT LOOKING TO SPEND $200+ more.

i HAVE looked through reviews but numbers dont tell the whole story. wanting to know from someone who may have had a similar upgrade and could shed some light.

No, and I used both a 6950 1gb unlocked and a GTX 580.

well im wondering if the drivers i have are just crapping out. every once in a while, in dx11 games, the game will just close and disapear. like it was never even running. i've tried your reccomended cleaning process from your thread and still have the same problem. card runs dx10 and 9 perfectly though. reinstalled games as well as windows.

Weird issue... Aside from not having DirectX updated I don't know what it could be. It could be either hardware or software related.

lock the card back to 6950 or drop the clocks and see how it runs and what games are goin out because BF3 is known to but a CDT means unstable overclocks normally. Honestly I wouldnt upgrade either, as its more like a sidegrade

BF3 runs fine, even OCed. crysis 2 is the main problem. perhaps its just buggy? unigen haven dx11 benchmark runs good without any problems now that i think of it.

weird as the 6970 beats the 570 in some benches. I recommend the 7870 as it is faster than the GTX 580 when overclocked and uses quite a bit less power, or you can get the 7950 for about the same price as the 580 and be faster across the board. It might be a faulty card to some extent (did it do it before you flashed the BIOS to a 6970?) or may be an issue with directx.
but stock clocks are here; http://media.bestofmicro.com/P/U/328818/original/Crysis2dx11 2560.png
given that a 7870 is $20 cheaper than the 580 and the 7950 is $20 more than most 580s, I would recommend considering both.

I'd recommend trying another 6970 as it's performance will be in between the two, if you can't afford a 78xx series card and don't overclock.

If you overclock the 7850 OC's and performs faster than a 6970 and you can get a new card for ~$250 so eh that's a thought.

I say if its only that game that is having issues like this, it verywell maybe buggy, but Id report the issue to both AMD and the game creator.

Crysis 2 is a horrendous game in the way it was made. You might as well go with a Nvidia card if that's the game you play most of the time.

umm... the 78xx series outperforms most nvidia cards in crysis 2 and I don't believe it is a Physx title so... yeah.

It's most definitely an unecessarily heavily tesselated game with a lot of help from Nvidia when it was being made. As stated, the 7 series is out of the question, so yeah.

Wait for Kepler to come, Fit. Oh no, not to buy them, but so that GTX 580s can be had at around $200.

Well then the 7000 series price will drop too so that would be interesting to see.

The 6970 and gtx 570 are basically the same thing... so you want a side grade?

no, but the 7850 might.

Yeah, again we're not talking about the 7 series. I think most of us know what the 7 series can do.. and again it's really not a part of the discussion.

well if it were to fall under $200 due to Kepler then it might be considered by the OP IMO. So then it is in the discussion, is it not?.
